"The House That Breathed "
No one ever built the house on Hollow Street. It just… appeared one October night. By morning, it stood there between two old trees, dust on the windows, cobwebs in the corners—as if it had been waiting for years.
Curious, twelve-year-old Rhea knocked on its door. It opened by itself, sighing like someone had been holding their breath too long. Inside, everything was covered in sheets, but under one, she swore something moved.
“Hello?” she whispered.
A voice replied—not from a person, but from the walls. “Thank you for coming home.”
Rhea stepped back. “This isn’t my home.”
“But it remembers you,” the house said. The wallpaper began to peel, revealing drawings—childish sketches of a girl with braids. Her name was written under each one: Rhea.
The air thickened. Every window fogged up from inside, as if the house was breathing faster.
Terrified, Rhea ran out the front door—only to find that outside was gone. The trees, the street, everything had vanished. There was only the faint, slow heartbeat of the house.
That night, the people of Hollow Street said they heard a new voice whispering from the windows. A little girl’s voice.
And the house… exhaled again.
