Tis the night before Christmas…
It was a Christmas Eve, and Della and Jim were struggling to make ends meet. They had just $1.87 between them, and Della wanted to get Jim the perfect gift a gold watch chain. But she couldn't afford it. She looked around their small apartment, her eyes scanning the few possessions they had. And then, she saw it her beautiful long hair, cascading down her back like a waterfall of brown. It was her pride and joy, her most prized possession. But she knew it was the only thing she could sell to get Jim the gift he deserved. She went to the hairdresser, and for $20, she sold her hair. It was a painful sacrifice, but she knew it was worth it. With the money, she bought the most beautiful gold watch chain she'd ever seen. Meanwhile, Jim was out shopping, trying to find the perfect gift for Della. He'd been eyeing a set of combs for her hair, a beautiful set of silver combs that would make her look like a queen. But they were expensive, and he didn't have enough money. So, he did the unthinkable he sold his prized watch, the one his father had given him, to buy the combs. It was a sacrifice, but he knew Della was worth it. When Della got home, she was beaming with excitement. She presented Jim with the watch chain, and he looked at her in surprise. Oh, Della, it's beautiful he exclaimed. But when he handed her the combs, she burst out crying. What's wrong, Della? he asked, worried. My hair, it's gone she sobbed. And then, she saw the look on his face, and she knew he had sold his watch to buy the combs. They looked at each other, and in that moment, they knew their love was the greatest gift of all. The watch chain and the combs, they were just symbols of their love, reminders of the sacrifices they'd made for each other. As they hugged, Della whispered, We'll always have each other, Jim.
