I completely agree with this. India is a multilingual country, and expecting everyone in the India chat to communicate only in hindi is not realistic or fair. Many users, especially from South India, are far more comfortable in other languages and forcing them to use a language they don’t know only leads to confusion and frustration.
I can personally speak tamil, malayalam, english, and hindi, and even with that, it’s clear that users who don’t know hindi are being left out or muted unnecessarily. People who are multilingual can manage, but that shouldn’t be a requirement to participate in an India chatroom.
Users should be allowed to speak other Indian languages or at the very least english, which is widely understood across the country. Introducing language based moderators or relaxing the language restrictions would make the chat far more inclusive and welcoming.
I’ve been on Stake for almost two years now and would also be happy to help with moderation if needed, especially in supporting users from different linguistic backgrounds.
