An idea to prevent fraud

I have noticed that there are a lot of alts entering the weekly official challenges.

This is very concerning becuase it raises the possibility that real players will be paid less as a result of alt accounts.

This is just my idea to solve/minimize the problem (open to discussion and correction): Why don't we increase the minimum post count to 50 posts to enter these contests?

This will force legitimate newer players to explore stake first before having the privilege to enter and will have the added bonus of dramatically decreasing the amount of alts that use and abuse stake.

Thoughts/ideas? Will definitely make the lives of the mods easier :D

i think that would be unfair to the legitimate players. :)

not all players in stake takes time to post on forum. i for one, took almost 5months to join the forum. and so many other members who joined but are not active here.

it would seem like you are asking them to prove themselves too. :)

Interesting idea. That does make sense now that I think about it :) Thanks for sharing!

Stake has a system to detect alts so there is no problem but if the system detects alts by ip addresses or something then thats a problem

It used to be the case, yes, we required 50 minimum post count, you can check it on the older giveaways :)

But we decided to lower this requirement, just so that some players, who are not as interested in "foruming" would have chance to participate in giveaways still ;)

Alts are a problem, I fully agree, but we will keep on fighting them off, I guess, that's all we can do :/

They (supports and mods)actually know who are alts of whom. Other players also know which alts are from other players lol.

That is a good idea- really. It could also be a minimum follow count or something.

It is really a cheat on the whole community when they do that .

I totally agree with you that people using alts to repeatedly claim contest wins is a real problem because it hurts everyone else who plays as the system is intended.  For me, it is especially bad because I like the "easy" contests where lots of people can win versus the harder ones.  Worse, it may discourage Stake from doing these contests which are really fun.

I don't know why free money always seems to bring out the worst in people.

I appreciate your idea but it will just lead to spam on this forum.  It is already pretty bad with people posting to get the 10 count for the contests and the 100 count to trade.

Sadly, I can't think of a better solution than what the support staff is already doing, screening the contests for cheaters (which is what they are) and banning their accounts.  I've yet to see any site deal with this well, and few of them are as generous and fun as Stake.

EDIT: Okay, one idea that would require some work but could work - require a buy in or deposit of a few FORUM satoshi to participate in the contests.  This could be a small amount, say 1000.  Those could either be refunded after the contest is paid out or kept.  Obviously, I'd prefer the refunded idea.  That would discourage making alt accounts because you'd lose your forum satoshi if it was shown you were cheating.  This is similar to your original idea of post count, but requires the cheaters to actually risk something of value.  Also, if they funded all their alt accounts from one core account, it would be easy to trace those tip flows and ban the core account as well.
