giovs777 Posted December 13, 2025 #702 Posted December 13, 2025 On Christmas morning in 1966, Las Vegas was quieter than usual. The casinos still glowed, but the crowds were thin β most people were home, opening gifts, counting blessings instead of chips. Nick βThe Greekβ Dandolos was not at home. For more than fifty years, Nick had lived at card tables and racetracks. He had won millions, lost millions, and done it all again β not because he needed the money, but because he needed the game. βItβs not the money,β he used to say. βItβs the action.β By then, he was eighty-three. The big private games were long behind him. The legends remained, though: the night he broke a casino, the seasons when he lost everything, the times he came back with nothing but nerve and luck. That Christmas Day, Nick collapsed and died in Las Vegas. There was no dramatic final bet, no pile of chips pushed forward. Just a gambler who had spent his life chasing risk and lived long enough to see it all come and go. Some men measure their years in holidays and milestones. Nick measured his in hands played, odds taken, and chances dared. While the rest of the world celebrated Christmas with certainty, Nick the Greek left it the only way he knew how β after a lifetime of wagers, having played the game all the way to the end. fanta007 Posted December 13, 2025 #705 Posted December 13, 2025 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there; Β The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads; And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled down for a long winter's nap, Β When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. Β The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the luster of mid-day to objects below, When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer, Β With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name; Β "Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donner and Blitzen! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!" Β As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky; So up to the house-top the coursers they flew, With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too. Β And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof The prump of a foot, and the creaking of hoof. As he drove out of sight, "May all your Christmases be bright, And may all your wishes come true!" Β How lovely and cheerful it is to behold This image of Christmas, so joyful and bold! A night of wonder, a night of delight, A magical time, when all is made right. Β Merry X-Mas Stake id : fanta007

As I drew in my head, and was turning around, Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound. He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot; A bundle of toys he had flung on his back, And he looked like a pedler just opening his pack. His eyesβhow they twinkled! his dimples, how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow; The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath; He had a broad face and a little round belly That shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly. He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself; A wink of his eye and a twist of his head Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread; He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk, And laying his finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose; He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sightβ Β Stake: KingDawn1211Β

Ryzo Posted December 13, 2025 #712 Posted December 13, 2025 βTis the night before Christmas, and honestly, itβs quiet in a way that feels strange. No cars outside, no phones buzzing, just the heater clicking now and then. The tree lights are still on because someone forgot to turn them off, and theyβre blinking like they donβt know the dayβs almost here. The stockings are hanging, a little crooked, and one of them already looks too full, like itβs cheating. The house smells like pine and cookies that were maybe in the oven too long. Thereβs wrapping paper stuffed in a corner that never made it to the trash. Outside, snow is falling slow, not dramatic, just steady. It makes everything look softer, even the stuff you donβt usually like. You can almost believe the year wasnβt that hard when the world looks like this. Someone turns over in bed down the hall. A floorboard creaks. For a second, you wonder if you heard something on the roof, but itβs probably just the windβ¦ probably. And in that moment, right before Christmas actually shows up, everything feels paused. No rush, no plans, no worries about tomorrow morning. Just this quiet, warm, slightly messy night where it feels okay to believe something good is coming. Β Stake: Kozax18

Marriott124 Posted December 13, 2025 #716 Posted December 13, 2025 βTis theΒ night before Christmas,β the storyteller began, βand the village of Winterwick hummed with a curious sort of excitementβone that shimmered like starlight and jingled like sleigh bells.β Every year, on this single enchanted night, the "Great Yuletide Gambol" appeared in the center of the snowy town square. It wasnβt a casino of coins and cardsβoh no. This was a place where the stakes were dreams, and the winnings were wonders no coin could buy. Young Milo, mittens crooked and scarf too long, hurried toward the glowing tents. Legends said the Gambol only revealed itself to those with brave hearts and honest wishes. Inside the main tent spun a giant wheel carved entirely from ice, its symbols glowing gently: a snowflake, a lantern, a shooting star, a holly leaf, and one final symbol no one had ever seenβan empty space that shimmered like possibility. An elderly woman with eyes like warm cocoa approached him. βCare for a spin, dear? Tonight luck isnβt about chanceβitβs about truth.β Β Milo hesitated. βWhat do I wager?β βSomething smallβ¦ but meaningful.β Β He thought for a moment, then removed the little wooden whistle his father had carved before leaving for a faraway job. It was his most treasured itemβbut also the symbol of his wish: that his father might return soon. He placed it gently on the velvet cushion. The wheel spun. Snowflakes sparkled upward as it whirled faster, humming with a gentle, melodic magic. Milo held his breath. At last, the wheel slowedβ¦ slowedβ¦ and clicked perfectly onto the shimmering empty space. Gasps rippled through the tent. The old woman smiled. βAh. The rarest outcome. The Gambol chooses to rewrite a moment.β A warm breezeβimpossibly out of place inΒ winterβswirled around Milo. When it faded, he turned toward the tentβs entrance. There, brushing snow off his coat, stood his father. Β βMilo? I came home earlyβ¦ felt like something was pulling me.β Β And somewhere beyond the northern stars, the magical wheel of the Yuletide Gambol winked, satisfied. Brandylynn_08 Posted December 13, 2025 #722 Posted December 13, 2025 (edited) Best Christmas I ever had was 2020. I had Christmas with both my parents for the first time in my entire life. Β After the timeline of COVID and the measures we were finally able to enjoy having gatherings. Ours was small. Myself, partner, beautiful 3 daughters and my mother. My mom was having a hard time with her spouse that day, they werenβt living together, but serious over years. He was with his immediate family - my mom wasnβt invited. Kicker was she was upset that they didnβt get to have Xmas together, but she wasnβt invited to his family day and he hadnβt messaged her yet that day. My dad and mom separated when I was a baby. He didnβt come into my life until I was 22. My mom and him had some history as you can imagine and over 12 years of dinners and functions and avoiding most conversations over that time my mom wasnβt much of a fan, but cordial nonetheless. Β Of all the days my dad shows up and had the most heartwarming card and thoughtful gift for her. On the day she truly needed that moment of kindness she got it from a person and place she least expected, and the depth of emotion I got to witness as a child (YES at 35) my mom got a sweet and genuine love from my dad; love I had never been able to witness between them. My mom needed that message and validation that day. How sweet life can be sometimes. πππ Β I lost my dad last year in November and this memory is truly one of the most special to me of my life. Iβm grateful I had it and thankful this forum reminded me of it.Β Edited December 13, 2025 by Brandylynn_08 Incorrect year
