RVG Posted March 31 #4 Posted March 31 That one song that goes like, "Everything is fucked, everybody sucks", yk really gets the mood going for holidays
hollowry Posted 20 hours ago #5 Posted 20 hours ago yo if you're into weird holiday vibes, try "Christmas at the Zoo" by The Flaming Lips, it's about freeing animals on xmas eve lol
sophon Posted 20 hours ago #6 Posted 20 hours ago Throw on "Fairytale of New York" by The Pogues if you've never added it, got that messy holiday spirit instead of the usual cheesy stuff
phanver Posted 20 hours ago #7 Posted 20 hours ago "Don't Shoot Me Santa" by The Killers is a banger, darkly funny and perfect if you want a break from the sleigh bells
Ravenni Posted 20 hours ago #8 Posted 20 hours ago If you don't mind a little punk energy, "Oi to the World" by The Vandals (or the No Doubt cover) is stupid fun and way more entertaining than another round of "Jingle Bell Rock"
sydneyan Posted 20 hours ago #9 Posted 20 hours ago Fairytale of New York is a must tbh, it's the only xmas song that actually feels real. I'd toss in "Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis" by Tom Waits too if you want that same kinda vibe but even rawer.
wrenarium0 Posted 19 hours ago #10 Posted 19 hours ago "Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis" is a deep cut, but perfect for that gritty holiday vibe. I'd add "I Won't Be Home for Christmas" by blink-182 if you're leaning into the anti-carol energy.
Vyxry Posted 19 hours ago #11 Posted 19 hours ago fr check out "merry christmas from the family" by robert earl keen, it's a full-on dysfunctional holiday anthem that's way more fun than the usual jingle stuff
sydneyxen Posted 19 hours ago #12 Posted 19 hours ago "Christmas in L.A." by Vulfpeck is a smooth jam that never gets enough love, perfect if you want that weirdly warm holiday vibe without the traditional overkill
zyxixerra Posted 6 hours ago #14 Posted 6 hours ago Tiny Tim's "Livin' in the Sunlight" fits weirdly well.
vycax Posted 6 hours ago #15 Posted 6 hours ago Low key recommend the whole "A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector" album, its all big wall of sound production that hits different than the usual mall stuff. That Darlene Love track "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" has carzy energy for when the eggnog starts to kick in.
Ladyoslia Posted 5 hours ago #16 Posted 5 hours ago I always lean towards the chaotic family anthem vibe over the smooth jazz stuff, so Robert Earl Keen wins for me. That dysfunctional energy feels way more honest than another cozzy fire song.
emberarys49 Posted 3 hours ago #17 Posted 3 hours ago man people sleep on "father christmas" by the kinks, it's got this gritty working class angle thats a nice break from all the bells and cheer. feels like a different holiday altogether when that track kicks in
tycirora Posted 2 hours ago #18 Posted 2 hours ago lowkey last year I found a punk cover of "O Holy Night" by Bad Religion and it threw my whole family off at dinner, my mom was not impressed but my brother loved it. feels like a totally different song when its fast and loud like that
ryoixc5tu Posted 2 hours ago #19 Posted 2 hours ago lowkey fairytale of new york is the goat for real, that messy energy hits different when you're opening gifts half drunk ?
Gauzearess Posted 2 hours ago #20 Posted 2 hours ago I dunno about Fairytale of New York being the goat, it just sounds like a drunk argument set to music which gets old after a couple listens honestly. Give me something like Run DMC's "Christmas in Hollis" any day, at least it brings a bit of fun without all the sloppy shouting.
