Fairytale of New York is a must tbh, it's the only xmas song that actually feels real. I'd toss in "Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis" by Tom Waits too if you want that same kinda vibe but even rawer.

Low key recommend the whole "A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector" album, its all big wall of sound production that hits different than the usual mall stuff. That Darlene Love track "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" has carzy energy for when the eggnog starts to kick in.

I always lean towards the chaotic family anthem vibe over the smooth jazz stuff, so Robert Earl Keen wins for me. That dysfunctional energy feels way more honest than another cozzy fire song.

man people sleep on "father christmas" by the kinks, it's got this gritty working class angle thats a nice break from all the bells and cheer. feels like a different holiday altogether when that track kicks in

lowkey last year I found a punk cover of "O Holy Night" by Bad Religion and it threw my whole family off at dinner, my mom was not impressed but my brother loved it. feels like a totally different song when its fast and loud like that

I dunno about Fairytale of New York being the goat, it just sounds like a drunk argument set to music which gets old after a couple listens honestly. Give me something like Run DMC's "Christmas in Hollis" any day, at least it brings a bit of fun without all the sloppy shouting.
