Desperate scammers

Hey everyone, I am still ranting about yesterday when I was scammed , some of you guys were in chat when I mentioned it , But I decided to make a post about it as a slight warning for other trusting people whilst buying bitcoins.

First let me explain What happend, Yesterday morning I logged in to paxful to buy some bitcoins (sats) to deposit on stake , I like to use diffrent payment methods , usually prepaid like skrill , Paysafecard or sometimes my debit card , So I opened up a trade for £100 like normal and was asked to give my Paysafecard for payment, Then I pressed the PAID button and waited for them to release the coins , bearing in mind I have done this time and time again , 15 minuets later I’m still awaiting release, and even though there is usually an hour to complete the trade, I figured something wasn’t right , then after 25 minuets the audacious cow had the cheek to hop on chat and tell me my voucher was frozen and unusable, I was like oh hell no !

She even sent me a screenshot of the voucher number on the screen saying it was apparently frozen after having had it for 25 minuets. So I stayed on chat and opened up a trade dispute, and she lied till she was blue in the face that she had not used the voucher,

Now because I’m fuming mad at the ordeal I contacted Paysafecard Customer service and explained what had happend sent the receipts I had along with the pin and serial number, turns out the voucher had been loaded on to another Paysafecard 6 minuets after I opened the trade on paxful. Obviously I went back to paxful and confirmed all the details I had from Paysafecard , along with emails . I was told I would have to wait up to 1 week before a a very busy moderator can spare the time to fix it,

So even though I lost £100 I’m actually more mad that she scammed me and wasn’t even the slightest bit regretful, she was damn rude actually , I felt it was important to enlighten you all on how easy it is even on a decent site like paxful to be ripped off. Iv put together a check list of what I usually look for whilst buying my bitcoins but if you have anything further that you do personally or would recommend I do please let me know, the fiasco was ridiculous over only £100 I know the market is down so she must have been feeling the hit. Hopefully we can help others being ripped of too.

  • Check for reputation, good feedback and successful trades, avoid traders with a high number of negatives,
  • Be clear and straight forward while taking through the trade,
  • Check and double check the rate of the coins and the currency your paying in, they are known to ask you to cancel a trade because you paid in gbp and they want euros, just calculate the difference before you pay ,
  •  Take screenshots in case something goes wrong, you can refer to them for time and dates and such.

Always report scammers, no matter how small the amount of money is the more they get away with , the more invincible they think they are, negative feedback is visible to everyone, hopefully this will discourage people from using them in the future.❤️

These are all super good tips and appreciate the advice from you!!!

very true...
and im sorry this situation happened to you buddy :(
i think one of the most valuable suggestions is  the one you said "Check for reputation, good feedback and successful trades, avoid traders with a high number of negatives"

it cant be full proof but it for sure helps weed people out.

I hope this isnt too much commonplace and that we all can take away from your experience and learn something ourselves....

Thanks for sharing

You have to be so careful these days. I am honestly too afraid to even use local bitcoins, I rather pay a bit more and use a popular exchange to buy my coins than risk it, especially if you don't know the person. Thanks for posting these tips to help keep us safe :)

Here's an even better tip. If you are using (even a trusted) seller for the first time or you are feeling suspicious, do smaller trades. For example, by $5 at a time, or $10. It would make less sense for scammers to bother with that amount of money, and if they do, you can stop in time and only lose a little bit of money. I'd much rather waste 20 cents more on fees than risking potentially losing $100.

Also, having a middleman works wonders. I've only bought crypto on Sythe and their official middlemen have huge reputations/donations where they wouldn't risk it for anything (even $5k+). Of course there's alot of risks with impersonators.... so watch out for that.

Some people who scam others on a regular basis are the worst humans ever. They dont have any moral or ethical correctnes in them. While they scam people for money, they get excited about their "winnings" and feel no regret... I hate scammers and I don't like how those people think its ok to do that kinda stuff. But well what can you do :(

If you can mention the trader's name then it would be very helpful for us to stay away. Also one more thing that is getting me angry is that why the heck did you even use Paxful ? Their fees are high , Site design looks bad and easy to scam i guess. Use LocalBitcoin because there the traders must verify Passport , ID card and many more so you can report to the rightful authorities if you get scammed ( Not often at all ).

Agreed. I don't use paxful, but I'm sure some other users do.

You can report and avoid.

No excuse. Odds are she was scamming before the crash, and will be after.

I'm sorry this happened to you Mlc. Thanks for the tips and I hope they clear that mess up soon.

thats why with sites such as paxful i never buy anything over $50, unless its a regular seller that i always go to that can be trusted forsure. nowadays scamming is more popular than legit business it seems.
