blueprints Posted December 7, 2018 #1 Posted December 7, 2018 Ok so periodically I see someone bumping a really old forum topic. I think there's a point where its too much. Especially when really simple topics that were made 4+ months ago have 6+ pages of replies that are very similar to each other.
Mikehoncho Posted December 14, 2018 #2 Posted December 14, 2018 I'm not against the idea. I think there could be some limitations to it though. If a thread reached a certain threshold of reply's or unique users replying it doesn't lock. I say this because there are a few nuggets of gold that deserve to be revived for the new users to see, and the old users to reflect on. One example that comes to mind is the Stake-isms thread I found a few weeks back. That was worthy of a revive I think and it was at least 6 months old.
Community Manager Stake Staff Posted December 14, 2018 Community Manager #3 Posted December 14, 2018 Necro-posting has been a real problem and subject of discussion between mods and support for quite a few times. When does a topic become redundant and doesn't add quality content to the discussion, but just serves for bumping. Since the whole point of forum is community, helping, being informative and discussing issues we have decided to observe these topics by each individual case - if topic is interesting and open for discussion, it is to remain open for new users as well, as they join. If topic is a reported issue that is solved, we tend to close real quick. The only problem is how to differentiate between the two, so we are still struggling to find a common ground here 🤔 Users can also set autolock on their topics, if I am not mistaken, but perhaps following your topics and lock by need might be the best solution I could suggest for now 😉
