i got my first gig by just helping some radnom user with a banner in the requests section, next thing i know a multimedia lead messaged me saying they saw it and asked if i wanted to apply

Not really a secret handshake tbh, just throw some work into the graphics section and hang out in the feedback threads without spamming them. It's a weird mix of patience and luck, but someone from the team usually notices if you're not treating it like a job interview.
