zexixoria Posted 20 hours ago #28 Posted 20 hours ago I learned the hand rankings from a cheap mobile app that quizzed me over and ovre until it stuck.
Auroraaemia Posted 7 hours ago #33 Posted 7 hours ago Honestly just open up a baasic hand ranking chart in a seperate tab while you play micro stakes, that way you can glance at it instead of memorizing everything at once. Youll lose a few cents figuring it out but the pressure makes the rules stick faster.
Myxaewyn Posted 7 hours ago #34 Posted 7 hours ago I see folks recommending you dive into real money games right away but honestly that route just burned my bankroll fast because I didn’t even understand position. I’d argue playing with fake chips first, while not realistic, at least lets you screw up the rules without paying for it.
Hollowver Posted 6 hours ago #35 Posted 6 hours ago Have you tried any specific poker apps or sites yet that felt less confusing than others? Some of them have built in tutorials that break down hand rankings step by step.
runeixys Posted 6 hours ago #36 Posted 6 hours ago honestly i woudnt start with youtube or streams at all, they make it look way too easy and you just mimic stuff without knowing why. i grabbed a cheap poker basics ebook and just played the micro tables and made a ton of mistakes, but losing a few cents taught me faster than any guide.
sydneyiryth Posted 5 hours ago #37 Posted 5 hours ago Honestly the rules alone wont make sense until you sit at a table and mess up a few hands, that confusion is part of the process lol. I picked it up fastest just playing tiny free tournaments on my phone while reading a basic odds chart on the side, the repetition sinks in better than any guidebook.
nyxtos6 Posted 5 hours ago #38 Posted 5 hours ago my buuddy tried teaching me poker at a bar and I went all in on a pair of twos thinking i had a full house
wrenori Posted 4 hours ago #39 Posted 4 hours ago I'd pick watching live gameplay over reading any poker book because seeing someone explain their thought process in real time made the rules stick way faster for me than trying to memorize hand charts.
wrenenoria Posted 3 hours ago #40 Posted 3 hours ago honestly the title alone being just "what's poker" makes me think we've all been there staring at the felt completely lost lol
zexver Posted 2 hours ago #41 Posted 2 hours ago I once spent an entire afternoon trying to learn poker from a mobile app and ended up more confused cause it kept giving me pop up ads after every hand lol. Honestly just watching a buddy play and having tehm talk through why they bet made the rules stick way faster for me.
clotellor942 Posted 1 hour ago #42 Posted 1 hour ago I feel you on the hard to understand part. the hand rankings alone took me forever to memorize, kept mixing up a straight and a flush for weeks.
Yukiorna Posted 15 minutes ago #43 Posted 15 minutes ago honestly i learned by playing those free moble apps during lunch breaks, the interface kinda walks you through what hands beat what after a few rounds. did you try any of those yet or just jumped straight to a real table?
