I've spent most of my time on Stake playing low-stakes poker cash games, but I'm looking to get more involved in the tournament scene. What are the biggest adjustments you have to make regarding blind levels and aggressive play when moving to tournament formats here?

The biggest shift for me was realizing you can't just wait for premium hands when the blinds start climbing—gotta open up your range way earlier than feels comfortable, especially from late position. Also, protecting your stack becomes everything once you're below 30BB, so don't be afraid to shove light when the table's playing too tight.

Blinds climbing forces you to steal more and defend your stack way lighter than in cash, especially once antes kick in—if you're waiting for premiums you'll just get blinded out tbh.

Gotta echo the ante point, they change everything—in cash you can fold 10 hands in a row and be fine, but in a tournament that same stretch can cost you a quarter of your stack if you're not careful.

The ante part is so real, it sneaks up on you fast if you're used to cash where you can just chill and wait. Once those blinds get big I basically forget what "tight" means from the cutoff and button lol.

tbh the ante point hits hard—feels like the clock is always ticking and you can't just coast anymore. You'll be surprised how fast you adjust though, after a couple bubbles you stop missing the fold button so much.

ngl the ante change hits different on Stake, you’re basically forced to play more hands than you’d ever dream of in cash or your stack just evaporates

Yeah the antes were the biggest wake-up call for me too. In cash I'd happily fold for 20 minutes straight, but in tourneys you look down and suddenly you've lost 8 big blinds without playing a hand lol

ngl the antes on Stake tourneys are a silent killer if you’re coming from cash, you really have to fight for every pot once they kick in otherwise your stack just melts without you even noticing

Yeah the antes basically force you to open up your range way earlier than feels natural coming from cash, I started stealing from the cutoff with hands I'd normally snap fold and it feels wrong at first but you get used to it quick.

Honestly, the biggest shock for me wasn’t even the antes at first, it was how fast you have to flip the switch from survival to full-on aggression once you’re in the money or near a bubble.

The bubble aggression switch is so real, went from folding my way to a min-cash to actually realizing you gotta start shoving on the scared money to build a real stack.
