zyxureon Posted Friday at 05:21 PM #26 Posted Friday at 05:21 PM I think people obsess too much about early aggression versus patience, when really the biggest gut check is learning to shove 15 big blinds with a marginal hand and not feel sick about it. Cash game instincts tell you to wait for a premium spot, but in these Stake structures you just bleed out if you keep folding.
Vexlyn Posted Saturday at 07:11 AM #27 Posted Saturday at 07:11 AM I'd take a slightly loose early game over playing too tight and then being forced to shove with nothing later.
Ashiotia Posted Saturday at 11:58 AM #28 Posted Saturday at 11:58 AM Early stack building beats clinging to strating chips.
Vaeloseon Posted Saturday at 01:28 PM #29 Posted Saturday at 01:28 PM steal blinds from late pos when bubble looms
ravenon6 Posted Saturday at 01:45 PM #30 Posted Saturday at 01:45 PM I noticed you mentioned low stakes cash games first, and honestly that grind really helps you spot the weaker players early in tournaments who are still treating it like a cash table and calling way too light.
onyxrel Posted Saturday at 01:52 PM #31 Posted Saturday at 01:52 PM I remember sitting with 18BB and seeing someone shoev K5 suited from the cutoff in one of the daily mtts, that was the moment I realized how differently you have to value broadway hands compared to cash.
quillevast Posted Saturday at 04:35 PM #32 Posted Saturday at 04:35 PM I remember bubbling a $5 tourney on Stake because I was still trating it like a cash game and flatting too many suited connectors in late position, which just ate up my stack when the blinds doubled. Now I basically never cold call preflop without a specific plan to bluff or trap, otherwise I’d rather 3bet or just fold and save the chips for shoving over limpers once the ante stage hits.
Wrenynni Posted yesterday at 03:41 AM #33 Posted yesterday at 03:41 AM id pick the aggressive early approach over waiting, cos nitting up just gets you blinded down before you ever find a hand.
hugonadan Posted yesterday at 01:34 PM #34 Posted yesterday at 01:34 PM yeah fr stack preservation matters way more too, once you're like 20bb deep it's push/fold spots way sooner than cash ngl ?
orby61hnn Posted 4 hours ago #35 Posted 4 hours ago That middle stage fear is real on Stake with how fast blinds ramp up.
