Suleiman Ismail Posted Tuesday at 07:18 PM #1 Posted Tuesday at 07:18 PM Many people think poker is all about luck, but experienced players know it's much more than that. Success comes from reading the table, managing your bankroll, staying patient, and making smart decisions under pressure. The best players don't chase every hand—they wait for the right opportunity, stay disciplined, and think several moves ahead. Discussion: Do you believe poker is mostly skill or mostly luck? Umbraick Posted 19 hours ago #2 Posted 19 hours ago It’s def more skill than luck over time, but tbh the variance can still humble you real quick even when you play it right. For me, tight-aggressive works best—just folding trash and hammering when I’ve got the edge.
strikeva81 Posted 18 hours ago #3 Posted 18 hours ago It’s mostly skill over the long run for sure, but I’ve had sessions where I played perfectly and still got stacked by some ridiculous river card. Tight-aggressive is my go-to too, just gotta accept the bad beats and move on.
Legacytha Posted 17 hours ago #4 Posted 17 hours ago Tight-aggressive is the way tbh, but man those cooler sessions where you do everything right and still get stacked test your patience like nothing else.
Zexenne Posted 16 hours ago #5 Posted 16 hours ago Skill over the long haul, no question. But anyone who says luck doesn't play a part has never had pocket aces cracked by some maniac calling all-in with 7-2 offsuit.
yxon Posted 16 hours ago #6 Posted 16 hours ago Tight-aggressive is solid, but I've found mixing in some well-timed bluffs against the right players really pays off — gotta keep 'em guessing a bit.
ashick Posted 16 hours ago #7 Posted 16 hours ago It’s 90% skill over time but that 10% luck can make you question everything in the moment lol. I lean tight-aggressive too, but I’ll loosen up against players who fold too much to pressure.
frostzyl Posted 16 hours ago #8 Posted 16 hours ago Skill for sure long-term, but that 10% luck feels like 90% when you're the one getting rivered for your whole stack 😅 Tight-aggressive is the bread and butter, but I've learned you gotta switch it up against regulars or you become way too predictable.
onyxxen7 Posted 15 hours ago #9 Posted 15 hours ago Tight-aggressive works for me too, but the real skill is knowing exactly when to ditch it and exploit someone who's playing too scared or too loose.
zyxique Posted 14 hours ago #10 Posted 14 hours ago Pocket kings have lost me more money than any bad play I evr made.
runeixys Posted 13 hours ago #11 Posted 13 hours ago Anyone who's played enough hands realizes the deck eventually balances out, but the mental stamina to keep playing solid after three bad beats in a row is where most peopel lose their edge.
Zyllyn Posted 13 hours ago #12 Posted 13 hours ago fold preflop a bit more than you think you should, thats where most of the chip bleeding happens honestly
frankiiroria Posted 9 hours ago #13 Posted 9 hours ago folded queens preflop once and my buddy thought i was crazy til the flop came ace king ten, sometimes the best move is the one you dont make
Wineostia0 Posted 9 hours ago #14 Posted 9 hours ago I bluffed a guy off a full house once just because he thought I always had it, and I still don't know if that was skill or the universe messing with him. Those moments are why I laen 70% skill 30% luck though, because no amount of math makes someone fold a boat without a read.
Frankiollor32 Posted 8 hours ago #15 Posted 8 hours ago Skill decides. Pure luck players go broke fast.
Ryxoslyn Posted 4 hours ago #16 Posted 4 hours ago fold preflop a bit more than you think you should, thats where most of the chip bleeding happens honestly 🎯👑
dAYATo Posted 4 hours ago #17 Posted 4 hours ago yeah fr, patience is the hardest part but when you fold for an hour then stack someone who cant let go of top pair it feels so good ?
sandstein811 Posted 3 hours ago #18 Posted 3 hours ago I see it as mostly a grind where luck sets the stage but discipline decids who leaves with chips. The only strategy that works for me is folding so much the table starts to think im a nit, then showing up with a hand they cant believe i held onto that long.
Norosyth Posted 2 hours ago #19 Posted 2 hours ago Yeah man, I used to think I just had bad luck til I started tracking my folds. Turns out my patience stat was the real thing holding me back not the cards.
TerraN0mad Posted 24 minutes ago #20 Posted 24 minutes ago fr the mental game is the real difference maker, tilt will drain ur bankroll faster than any bad beat ever could ?
