Last time I did this someone said "go high" on a 9 and it immediately flopped a 2, lost 15 bucks just like that. Honestly now I just skip when the card is middle of the deck like 6 through 10, saved me way more than guessing.

high alays feels riskier to me cuz so many cards are painted already, i'd lean low and just let it ride a bit slower.
