People always bring up Lewa 2021 but honestly I think the cancelation just makes it feel worse than it was, Messi still had a crazy year and won Copa America so it wasn't a total sham. For me Ribery 2013 is the real snub, won everything with Bayern and the voting extension felt way more dodgy than a cancelled ceremony ever did.

Ribery in 2013 still seems underdiscussed when people bring this up, he won everything with Bayern that season and it was all about extending Messi's run. Its not even dramatic, just another year where collective glory didnt translate for an individual wingers case.

Ribery 2013 is way worse than Lewa honestly. The guy literally won everything and was the main man in that treble side but they just handed it to Messi cause it was his 4th in a row or whatever. At least with Lewa you can blame covid and the ceremony being cancelled but Ribery just got flat out ignored.

I still remember watching Iniesta pull the strings in that 2010 world cup final and thinking nobody even came close that year, just pure magic every time he touched the ball. Seeing him never get the top award is actually a joke honestly. The midfielders always get overlooked.
