That's the rake, basically the casino's cut for hosting the game. Keeps the lights on without them needing to beat you at the table.

Yeah, it's way less aggressive than the house actually playing against you. At least with rake you're just paying for the seat and the dealer, not battling the casino's bankroll.

Yeah, rake can be a slow grind but I'd much rather that than the casino sweating my every move at the table. It's the lesser evil for sure.

i mean at least the rake is predictable, playing against the house directly they got infinite pockets and no tilt to exploit so you are just doomed slowly either way

One time I was in a $1/$2 game and a $200 pot got shipped my way but I only saw $193 hit my stack, that tiny missing piece stung more than a bad beat honestly. They tell you it is a small cut but over a six hour session it eats through a buy in without you even realizing.
