Yeah, it's way less aggressive than the house actually playing against you. At least with rake you're just paying for the seat and the dealer, not battling the casino's bankroll.

i mean at least the rake is predictable, playing against the house directly they got infinite pockets and no tilt to exploit so you are just doomed slowly either way

One time I was in a $1/$2 game and a $200 pot got shipped my way but I only saw $193 hit my stack, that tiny missing piece stung more than a bad beat honestly. They tell you it is a small cut but over a six hour session it eats through a buy in without you even realizing.

Last month I played a few hours at a 1/2 table and lost like 15 bucks total after a bad beat, but looking back at the session stats the rake had already eaten nearly twice that. Kinda funny how you dont even notice it chip by chip but over time it piles up way faster than a couple lost hands.

Rake feels invisible until you count how many small pots you won but somehow your stack is smaller than it should be

I would rather the casino take a small rake and stay out of the game than have them act as a player with unfair resources. It feels way more fair even if it quietly drains your stack over time.

I played a home game once where the host took 5% out of every pot and by hour four my hundred bucks was down to tirty just from the rake alone, didnt even lose a big hand.
