neonexo Posted July 9 #1 Posted July 9 Hey everyone, For those who spend time on the sportsbook side of Stake, I’m curious about your betting habits when it comes to timing your wagers. I’ve been tracking my slips over the last month, and I noticed a huge difference in my win rates between pre-match and live betting: Pre-Match: I feel way more disciplined here. I can look at stats, check lineups, and lock in a solid price without any rush. The downside? Early injuries or a fluke red card can ruin a script instantly. Live Betting: The adrenaline is unmatched, and it's great for hedging or finding value when a heavy favorite concedes an early goal. But the temptation to chase losses or force a bet on a random match just because it's live is definitely a trap. I’ve started making a rule to only live-bet matches that I am actively watching on stream to avoid making blind plays. Do you guys prefer locking your slips in early and just watching it play out, or do you prefer reading the momentum of the game live? ⚽🏀
nyxyn Posted July 9 #2 Posted July 9 tbh live betting is where my discipline goes to die, the instant regret after forcing a bet on some random third-division match is too real lol. I’m trying to stick to pre-match for the main plays and only use live to hedge when it actually makes sense. neonexo 1
nalorlia Posted July 9 #3 Posted July 9 pre-match is definitely the smarter long-term play but man, live betting gets me every time when I see those odds shift mid-game lol. I've started setting a hard rule of only live betting if I already scouted the match beforehand neonexo 1
wineique Posted July 9 #4 Posted July 9 pre-match is my bread and butter for the big plays, but live is where I clean up small profits on obvious momentum shifts. The trick for me was setting a timer on live bets so I don't get sucked into the rabbit hole of chasing. neonexo 1
ravendra Posted July 9 #5 Posted July 9 live betting is where my bankroll goes to get absolutely wrecked lmao. I stick to pre-match for the serious stuff and only hop into live if I watched the first half and actually know the flow, not just chasing a random red card moment. neonexo 1
shotahunter Posted July 10 #7 Posted July 10 pre-match is the way to go for keeping your head straight, live bets got me chasing like a degen no cap ? neonexo 1
vaelioys1 Posted July 10 #8 Posted July 10 I actually feel the opposite, pre match burns me way more often since you cant react to a weird starting formation or a key player looking off from the first whistle. live at least gives me a chance to bail out early. neonexo 1
rauls60o9e5 Posted July 10 #9 Posted July 10 ngl i keep pre-match for my main bets and only touch live when i actualy watched the game, way less tilt that way bro ?
moutainy Posted July 11 #10 Posted July 11 ngl i keep pre-match for my main bets and only touch live when i actually watched teh game, otherwise variance cooks me bro ?
hollowund Posted July 11 #11 Posted July 11 Honestly I find live betting helps me manage variance better because you can bail out or adjust a position if things start going sideways, pre match just locks you into a decision with zero escape. The so called "discipline" of pre match feels a bit overrated when you can get sunk by news that drops 30 seconds after kickoff.
synni Posted July 11 #12 Posted July 11 last night i jumped on a live bet after seeing a red card in the first 15 minutes and it saved my whole slip, but ive also thrown money at a random turkish volleyball game just bc i was bored so its a double edged sword
Lyrawyn Posted July 11 #15 Posted July 11 I actually switched my strategy recently to only betting live on NBA games right after a big momentum swing, like a 10 point run, and the value on the favorite to bounce back is often way better than the pre match line. I still keep a few prematch parlays with Bundesliga totals though, those have treated me well this season.
peltlyn Posted July 11 #16 Posted July 11 I feel that, the pre match slip is always the cleanest but then you just sit there nervous for 90 mins hoping nothing weird happens. I actully started doing a split where 70% of my unit is locked pre match and the rest is for live spots that feel like the book is overreacting, saved me a few weekends for sure.
nix5p4mlem Posted July 11 #17 Posted July 11 lol same here, live betting is a rollercoaster for me ? but can't resist when i see juicy odds popping up ngl
Diverted Posted July 11 #18 Posted July 11 A mix of both works best for me. Pre-match for planning, live betting only when I see value during the game.
homoxen Posted July 11 #19 Posted July 11 do you ever find yourself completely abandoning pre match picks after a bad beat and just diving into live betting to win it back? thats my biggest issue, the urge to scrap the plan mid week is real
Emberanen Posted July 12 #21 Posted July 12 Honestly I think the whole live betting "discipline" thing is a myth, the real variance killer is betting volume not timing. I lose way more units on a bad live session just because its so easy to click on 5 etra bets that i never planned to make.
Sydneyelle3 Posted July 13 #22 Posted July 13 yo i started setting a hard timer for live bets, like if i havent found an edge in the first 10 minutes of the match i just close the tab and dont come back. the variance gets nuts otherwise because im clicking around during random water breaks lol it relaly helped me not force stuff
Raxalori76 Posted July 13 #23 Posted July 13 Honestly I lean way more into pre match now, the chaotic variance of live betting just ate my bnkroll with all those impulse clicks. At least with pre match I can walk away and let the bet breathe instead of refreshing like a maniac for 90 minutes
