Ixecube Posted July 9 #1 Posted July 9 When you are first to act after the flop with a decent top pair, do you prefer to check to see what the opponent does, or do you lead out with a bet to protect your hand? I always struggle with playing out of position.
xorus1 Posted July 9 #2 Posted July 9 depends on the board texture tbh, on a dry flop I'm checking a lot to let them bluff but on a wet board I'm leading out to charge draws
raxaytia2 Posted July 10 #4 Posted July 10 Do you adjust more if its a heads up pot versus multiway or does the indecision stay pretty similar no matter what?
Onyxalori34 Posted July 10 #6 Posted July 10 I get way more nervous checking top pair on a draw heavy board than a dry one.
sydneyynvar Posted July 10 #7 Posted July 10 not leading out with top pair just feels so wrong sometimes, like you are just inviting them to hit their backdoor straight on the turn
tycarium98 Posted July 11 #8 Posted July 11 I lean towards checking most of the time honestly, leading out just makes it too easy for them to fold their air and only continue with better.
Ravenni Posted July 11 #9 Posted July 11 Checking just lets them print a free win to the river, I am blasting on a KT4 board.
hollowan Posted July 11 #10 Posted July 11 It also depends on how the board connects with the opponent’s typical calling range.
Hollowlyn9 Posted July 11 #11 Posted July 11 It really depends who im against. Against a super aggro reg I lean toward checking just to let them hang themself, but I cant stand it when a passive player just flats behind and spikes a gutshot for free.
kyrxen561 Posted July 11 #12 Posted July 11 Last night I had top pair with a bad kicker so I checked and the guy just bombed the turn with a pure bluff, it felt like a trapp that actually worked.
meriaenda Posted July 11 #13 Posted July 11 I usually just bet small when the board is dry, keeps my range wide and I dont have to face a huge river decision if they just call down light.
synax Posted July 11 #14 Posted July 11 if its a wet board with lots of draws i will just donk lead small to deny equity, the main practical tip is to check raise more when the flop smashes your actual hand and their range is capped
Shredki Posted July 11 #16 Posted July 11 yeah checking top pair feels sketchy but i stacked someone last tuesday by check calling a K72 rainbow flop with KQ, the dude couldnt help firing all three streets with air on a blank runout
