Burgerwcheese Posted May 28, 2019 #27 Posted May 28, 2019 To be honest, I’ve said curse words before and in no way am I saying that cursing is wrong 100% of the time. Sure, you can get angry and in high-stress situations sometimes words just fly out of our mouths and we don’t stop to examine what we’re saying; there are plenty of justifications for why one would swear and why it’s okay to do so. But in reality, there are equally as many, if not more reasons why you shouldn’t curse. For one people get offended, this most definitely doesn’t apply to everyone (because if you curse you obviously aren’t offended by it because you are the one saying it,) but there are some people out there who don’t like cursing. Especially if it’s in the context of an insult towards that person—there are so many other ways you could express your anger/other negative feelings towards another person but to use a swear word just makes it worse. It doesn’t even help your argument when you’re angry at the person, it just makes you seem more like the wrong one because you’re using offensive language. I understand that in high-stress situations sometimes cursing is inevitable, but keep in mind that there are people who find your choice of words to be offensive. There are thousands upon millions of words in the English language, and I’m sure you can pick another word or another phrase that can express exactly what you mean without cursing. Don’t pick the easy way out and try to make the biggest impact by swearing because it doesn’t work. Honestly, it can make you sound uneducated at times because you’re expressing yourself in rash, caustic language and disregarding the social ramifications of cursing and receiving party’s sentiments on cursing. The language you use sets a precedent for others. Younger people hear your language and model their speech after the example you’ve set. It’s not only younger people that follow your example either if you freely curse in front of someone, they may assume that you’re okay with this kind of language and will be more likely to swear in front of you, perpetuating the cycle of bad language. If you keep swearing in your daily life and include these words in your conversations, you’re inevitably going to swear in all your interactions, not just your casual dialogues. I really don’t think it’s beneficial if you say a bad word in front of your boss or teacher, and it’ll probably decrease your brownie points (unless they don’t care—that’s another case.) All you’re doing is creating a habit that can take ages to grow out of. If you know someone doesn’t like it when you curse, don’t do it. You’re just affirming the fact that you don’t care what the other person thinks of you and you don’t care that they’re getting offended. Again, this is a generalization and I’m sure is not the case for everyone out there.
SovietDoggo Posted May 29, 2019 #28 Posted May 29, 2019 If a stranger offends you that much online then you need to toughen up and not take things so seriously or block them, no one is forcing you to talk to anyone in chat to begin with, it's not against the rules as to if it's a threat or not that's a different story, silly insults don't really matter.
MadMartingale Posted May 29, 2019 #29 Posted May 29, 2019 im very guilty of cursing on line, i was raised around it and it became part of my dialog, and as far as insults go i generally don't insult people unless they start it then there are very few that can out insult me , i don't take it personal i just fire it right back at them. some places it is more tolerated then other and lately i haver been trying to not curse as much because i don't like using it in my sentences.
polor12 Posted May 29, 2019 #30 Posted May 29, 2019 this is a site for 21 and over.. or whatever the legal age in which country you reside on.... as i said before everyone in here are grown.. you can or dont participate in the chat is basically up to you.. if you do feel insulted or uncomfortable.. ask the person to stop if the person is directly speaking to you.. but if you feel offended in a subject that people are discussing in chat.. if you want to engage let your voice be heard..but is you choice to keep the chatbox open.. you can always put it in hide.. or just chat in pm.. but if your the main subject and feel that they shouldn't be talking the way they should then ask the mods or support... but if is someone else to be the main subject let them choose
yololife222 Posted May 29, 2019 #31 Posted May 29, 2019 It’s the way old players talk and newcomers get offended same goes as rain if old player jokes about it half the chat knows it’s a joke but if a newcomer sais same joke he will 99% get a mutt for at least 1hr with no doubt. Wee players (old players) hawe a wrlly black jokes and some people don’t get it it’s so annoying when noobie tryes to protec old player when in reality wee are just joking. ❤️

Etude Posted May 29, 2019 #33 Posted May 29, 2019 I think lately chat moderators have been taking more action on users who use foul language and being overly offensive towards others which is a positive thing for chat as such actions of targeting other players offensively can lead to very toxic chat quickly.
