Messi fits the game better for me but it is not some huge gap.

I still pick Messi because watching him glide past three defenders and slot it home with zero panic is something I’ve never seen anyone else replicate so often. Ronaldo’s big moments are insane too, but I once saw Messi score a free kick in person and the whole stadium just fell silnt for a split second before erupting.

its gotta be Messi for me too, just feels more natural the way he moves but I'm curious do you think Ronaldo would still be above Messi for more people if they had swapped national teams

Messi makes the complicated stuff look so effortless that people sometimes forget the tactical work he does off the ball. Honestly though I think both of them are just a level above anyone else from this era and picking one is more about personal taste than any real gap in quality.
