The spam filter helps prevent this, by limiting the amount of messages you can send. I think if it did not exist, spam would be far more frequent in the chat.

I completely understand the spam filter in the global chat (English or any other language), but in private chats/ DMs, I really think spam filter should be removed. At times it get's so annoying that we end up shifting to telegram. I'm sure it isn't a tough thing to incorporate for such a big site. I'm just really happy though, that they added the number that shows how many characters you're left with lol. Otherwise long typed messages used to go to waste

Isn't it supposed to be private like as in you can say whatever the hell you want or as much as you want? I think it's pointless to have pm's if they have the same regulations as regular chat.

I don't think that spam filter bans for that long the max would be like 2 or 1 minute i am pretty sure it might've been a mod mute.

Except if you're talking about begging between friends or something.

The best way is to limit this by applying restrictions like that. Sure it will be a bit problem for 'normal' people, but unfortunately this is what we need to do. Some people will take advantage of everything if there are no strict rules.
