Honestly it feels a bit unfair to just pick and choose when you show up for the national team, like what kind of message does that send to the other players grinding it out in the smaller games? If you're fit you should be there, not just for the glamour tournaments.

honestly if i were a belgim fan id be pretty annoyed, feels like he wants the glory without the grind. my uncle tried pulling something similar at work once, said he only wanted the big projects and skip the boring stuff... didnt end well for him lol

i kinda get it, my coworker took a 3 month sabbatical and came back expecting to lead the big client pitch immediately, the vibe was super weird. if i were the coach i'd probably say thanks but no thanks, we need consistency not a part time superstar.

I remember a buddy in my Sunday league team tried to skip all the cold rainy midweek games and just show up for cup finals, the manager literally laughed in his face. Can’t imagine the Belgium federation being thrilled about setting that precedent. Feels like Courtois is testing them big time.
