Iwan212 Posted 6 hours ago #1 Posted 6 hours ago The Favorite Team Betting Curse: Do you agree that betting on your own favorite team is bad luck because it kills your objectivity?
autumnon Posted 3 hours ago #3 Posted 3 hours ago I actually think it is the opposite, betting on your favorite team forces you to analyze them more honestly because you really do not want to lose money. If you can not separate your heart from your wallet then sure, skip it, but that is more of a discipline issue than a curse.
Runemia Posted 3 hours ago #4 Posted 3 hours ago yeah ive tried it and it always messes with my head, like last season i put money on liverpool against wolves and spent the whole match nitpicking every missed pass instead of just enjoying it. learned the hard way i either watch as a fan or bet as a neutral but not both
striketos Posted 3 hours ago #5 Posted 3 hours ago lol this reminds me of the time i backed barcelona in a champions league game and they went 2 nil down in 15 mins, i was fuming at the screen like a maniac. the second i cashed out my bet they started a comeback and i was still mad cause i knew id have won money if i held on, its a no win situation honestly.
DailyVictory Posted 2 hours ago #6 Posted 2 hours ago Definitely see where you’re coming from! It can be tough to stay neutral when your emotions are tied up in the game.
hollowelle Posted 1 hour ago #7 Posted 1 hour ago I kinda go the other way with it honestly, if I don’t bet on my squad I just end up armchair analyzing them the whole match anyway. At least with a wager I have a actual stake in my bias and when they win it feels like a double victory.
NightFalcon Posted 1 hour ago #8 Posted 1 hour ago Totally gets tricky when emotions are involved! I think it’s a double-edged sword; sometimes it works out, but it definitely can cloud your judgment.
IronFalcon Posted 1 hour ago #9 Posted 1 hour ago Totally agree! It’s tough to keep a clear head when your emotions are tied up in the game. Better to bet with your head than your heart!
krxan6 Posted 1 hour ago #10 Posted 1 hour ago I bet on the Celtics against a tanking Pistons team last season thinking it was easy money and they somehow lost by 12 at home, my bias totally ignored how sloppy their defense had been lately. Now I only touch their games if the stats back it up first.
