I am new to poker, so I would love if some of you can share your experiences.

I remember my first live tournament I folded pocket queens preflop because someone raised so confidently I thhought they had aces, only to find out later they had ace king and I would have doubled up if I just called.

Man I got absolutely wrecked last week holdiing pocket kings on a dry board and the other guy slow played a set of fours all the way to the river. You really learn fast that position and reading the table is everything

What was the moment that made you realize poker is more about people than cards? I still remmeber the first time someone bluffed me off a monster hand and it stuck with me way more than any bad beat.

I wouldnt focus too much on the “people over cards” stuff just yet. Starting out its way more important to memorize hand rankings and basic odds before you even think abou trying to read anyone.

That first time you catch someone on a bluff after watching their bet sizing is a rush, almost better than hitting a flush draw.

I thought I knew poker from watching tv but then I sat at a real table and froze up trying to count outs in my head. The OP saying they are new makes me remember how sweaty my hands got during the first few hands.

I still remmeber my first live game where I folded pocket kings preflop because I was too scared of an ace showing up, turns out I wouldve won that hand easily. It's funny how your brain works against you when you're just starting out. Just dont be like me and play scared money lol

I started out thinking it was all about the cards, but learning to fold more than I play was the real game changer for me. It saves so many chips while you figure out who at the table actually knows what they're doing.

I feel you on that, I used to chase every flush draw like a maniac and drain my stack before I even knew what was happening. Folding is weirdly satisfying once you realize it keeps you in the game longer.

Honestly I think the hardest part isnt even the cards, its pretending you know what your doing while everyone stares at you

I'd pick live low stakes over online any day, you learn way faster when you can see someones hands shaking as they bluff. Sitting at a real table taught me more in a hour than a week of staring at a screen, even if my reads were terible at first.
