For Kane to lead his team to victory, the English defense must figure out how to survive the "Haaland Mania" that has taken this World Cup by storm. That task has been made exceptionally difficult by a severely depleted roster.

England has managed to secure just two clean sheets in their five matches. Their defensive spine is currently in a state of emergency:

Suspended: Center-back Jarell Quansah is serving a two-match ban for a straight red card against Mexico.

Injured: Defensive anchor Jordan Henderson is entirely ruled out with a broken wrist.

Doubtful: Key defenders Marc Guéhi and Reece James are battling hamstring injuries and face race-against-the-clock fitness tests.

If England's makeshift backline falters, it will force Kane into a shootout to keep his nation's dreams alive.

“We’ve been here a few times," noted England winger Bukayo Saka regarding the team's quarterfinal experience. "But the best team on the day is going to be the team that wins, so we’re aware of that and that’s where our focus is.”

The Fairytale Without Fear
While the pressure of the English media creates a pressure cooker for Kane, Haaland and his Norwegian teammates are operating with a dangerous level of freedom.

Having waited 28 years to return to the World Cup, Norway is playing with "house money." Their 2-1 giant-killing of Brazil in the Round of 16 proved they are not just happy to be here; they are a legitimate threat to win it all. Off the pitch, Haaland’s goofy, relaxed demeanor has captured the internet's heart, proving the squad is entirely unfazed by the moment.

"It’s important to joke around … I like to joke a little bit, and I like to have fun," Haaland admitted earlier this week. "To be able to be here and play on the biggest stage with my Norwegian friends against the best teams in the world, it’s really special."

When the whistle blows in Miami, the jokes will end. Two world-class number nines will enter the arena, but only one will leave with their World Cup dream intact.
