wry Posted August 10, 2019 #1 Posted August 10, 2019 Got some reports of my associates getting some random dust deposits of Litecoin (LTC). At first I figured, so what, free LTC, what can possibly be the harm? I've heard of dust attacks on networks, to try and gum them up, :looks at bitcoin:, but I had not heard of this. Apparently, it turns out it is actually a way to attack users or at least attack their privacy. Receiving coins is harmless in and of itself but It's used to try and identify people who can then be targeted. Here's a reddit post on the recent attacks: Here's a description of how this can be an attack: https://www.binance.vision/security/what-is-a-dusting-attack Apparently users of Samouri wallet were targeted awhile back. Thanks to @anonnep for the info on the dust attack. Note that anything less than 546 BTC satoshi is dust, BUT that amount is lower on alt coin networks so they can send more transactions to try and triangulate more identities. Still, I am always amazed at how creative the bad guys are at trying to steal.
chankhoreID Posted August 10, 2019 #2 Posted August 10, 2019 I also got 0.00000546 ltc suddenly this afternoon.and strangely only 0.00000546 ltc is this dangerous for our wallet security? my friend also sent 0.00000546 ltc about 7 of my friends got the ltc and with the same transfer amount . irresponsible by way of spam transfer ltc because I have experienced in my wallet token .
Enzo Posted August 12, 2019 #3 Posted August 12, 2019 That's very interesting and surprisingly I've never heard of it. I did hear players in stake chat mention they had random deposits to there stake LTC address. But it didn't happen to me probably cause I've never deposited LTC

Just load it into the 9900x cannon.😎
williamshennie9 Posted August 14, 2019 #5 Posted August 14, 2019 I've never heard of this tactic being used before, but thank you for alerting us. I've never got any deposits into my wallet for under 20k satoshis, so I don't think I've been hit yet, but i'll keep a lookout.
BLXN Posted August 21, 2019 #6 Posted August 21, 2019 I was like, what the hell? 0.o and then i found out.

Glad the topic could be of use to you! @allisonn I get your point but I think the trick is you have to be sure to send to Stake from the address that gets the coin. Good luck on your x1000s!
cryptofly Posted August 22, 2019 #8 Posted August 22, 2019 I got that information in twitter few days ago, is not that I hold Litecoin but I follow the chicken. Seems that hackers are among the smartest guys in order to find ways to bust your balance. Better keep it away and don´t touch anything that is not yours. And yes, samurai wallet is always a target, so many users with no proper cautions when doing transactions. Thanks for the info, very helpful. Good luck.
