wry Posted September 15, 2019 #1 Posted September 15, 2019 In the news today, Casa CEO Jeremy Welch is warning crypto users that numerous browser extensions have surfaced that are secretly stealing users data, especially know your customer (KYC) data that can be directly exploited for identity theft. Quote: Quote As an example, Welch demonstrated how an extension providing wallpapers with inspiring quotes or other content was actually stealing data as you filled in KYC forms. The malware stole graphical data, like a photo of your driver’s license, which is captured as a code and then easily decoded, providing an actual picture of your ID document to hackers. So while this is not direct theft of your private keys, though I guess one could be designed that way, it's still a bit disconcerting. So just say no to that extension that provides pictures of kitties it's just not worth the risk! In an ideal crypto world all the KYC stuff would not matter, one of the whole advantages of Bitcoin was privacy (even though it wound up being a lot less private than initially hoped) which is contrary to the whole KYC and control regime! So go Bitcoin, go Crypto! Link: https://www.coindesk.com/browser-extensions-can-help-scammers-steal-your-bitcoin-casa-ceo

No data recolted, no useless ads and I even make money! 👍
SLFJ Posted September 16, 2019 #4 Posted September 16, 2019 Interesting how they managed to pull this off so sneaky.

Thepug Posted September 21, 2019 #6 Posted September 21, 2019 I don’t download any extensions because of the risk of malware. I don’t have a webcam or mic too, because I know of people that have been hacked and the hackers were able to access their camera. With that, they were able to see who they were, find out where they lived and threaten them.

Great idea at its core but I'd like to have full control over my earned BAT or at least be able to donate it to someplace like Stake and get paid!
