Anyone Need Computer Help?

I'm bored and wanted to do something to give back, be a little more active in the forum community. Mostly advice if anyone needs any, but I have been working on computers for about 18 years, still build gaming pc's for friends and family, and have been diagnosing mainly hardware issues for a long time. Comment here if you'd like to ask a question. Maybe I can help, maybe I can't!

Hi, I would really need help in one case. I want to build a gaming computer for my son, he loves to play online shooters such as Valorant, but looking at the prices of video cards, I was a little confused. Is it possible to somehow reduce the cost of a computer?

You can buy one that having processor with medium specification of integrated graphics that only costs like $250 here (price depends on your country) . For example, taking Ryzen 5 5600G or Ryzen 7 5700G already best value for now since video cards are god damn expensive. You can look out for any reviews for that if you want to know more about it :)

I personally would not follow this advice posted above, although it isnt the worst advice I've seen. Playing a game such as Valorant is very GPU intensive, and that is just the beginning. The best way for someone to get themselves a graphics card is genuinely by buying a pre-built computer from a manufacturer such as iBuyPower, CyperPowerPC, or similar companies. It seems to be the best bang for the buck on acquiring a graphics card. But if that isn't possible, look for a pre-owned PC on local online markets such as facebook marketplace. Anything with an RTX 20 series graphics card will be enough for Valorant for a few years. Just my opinion though.

Is there any chance to build good gaming pc with 150$ I have my own desktop need better cpu only old hardware would b good which one is to pick?

As I can only afford between the two, should I go for a laptop with a better processor or better ram? I would only use it for gaming and stuff. None of the programming or editing work

@ewm011 that's more than likely not going to help, but if you were to find a video card, that's the best you could spend money on for gaming, assuming your computer isn't a decade old. I'd have to see the specs on your computer, but even for 150 these days, you would have a hard time finding a graphics card that is worth the money. If you want to let me know your specs, I can give you a better idea of what you should look for.

@Narcissae if it is crashing the computer, it is most likely an audio driver problem, but I would need to know what you are doing specifically when it crashes. Even with that information, I may also need to know the specs on your computer as well, and what you use it for (watching YouTube, gaming, streaming, etc) as all of these things have audio necessities but can vary from each other quite a bit. Is it a pc or a laptop? Feel free to reply

@JinooI would select the one with the better cpu as that cannot be upgraded at a later time (memory on laptops can be upgraded most of the time), but fair warning, gaming on a laptop is not going to yield you great results, especially with AAA titles such as call of duty or fallout or anything of the likes. Desktop computers have more computing power for each individual component ( graphics card for processing graphics for example) where as a laptop has these same capabilities, but they are jammed up in a compact carry all to be convenient, not powerful. Feel free to link me the two laptops you are looking in to, and what games you are interested in playing. I'll give you my honest opinion, but gaming properly is unfortunately not a cheap hobby, and I'd hate to see you spend now when you could save for something worth your money later.

Here you go !

What happens on this "crash" process:

1.The sound will switch off by itself
2.A few seconds later, the video (so, a game and/or youtube) will freeze.

Now, the interesting part: This is not a typical crash, as I keep control of my mouse and keyboard ( so any Windows key + shortcut) or any move with the mouse are registered.
However, starting for example Task manager will make the software not to work if trying to get into "processes"
I can run command prompt but won't be able to write anything.

I tried to see if by not touching anything it would solve itself (such as a random stutter) but no.
If trying the Ctrl+Alt+Del --> Reboot: it will stay in a loop and not restart

The only way to get out of this is by forcing the shutdown and then starting the computer again.

What I tried so far:

Cleaning the computer

Check on the connectics and rearranging the cabling

Run hard drives checks

Run sfc /scannow --> First time repaired few files but since then doesn't show any violation

Checked online (haven't seen any similar situation)

So far, over the last 3 weeks, it recorded 9 events of forced shutdown, which are happening between on a range of every day to every 4 days (but the average is every 2 days), the link to the screenshot: https://ibb.co/YRGtb8B

The error is usually a Critical Event 10111 / DriverFrameworks-UserMod with the description: The device HID-compliant headset (location (unknown)) is offline due to a user-mode driver crash.  Windows will attempt to restart the device 5 more times.  Please contact the device manufacturer for more information about this problem.

The solution I found was to just disable the Headset HID within the device manager, had maybe in the span of 2 months 2 crashes but Windows never recorded any event from that.
So it's technically half solved

I hate to say this, but you may be chasing a hard issue here like you said, and although you've done quite a bit, I really have only a couple simple ideas from some basic research that it seems you may have already done.

Do you have a usb headset/audio device/audio hub/surround sound? If so, switch it over to something else temporarily if you have an option to do so (the key here is to eliminate anything USB related that is also audio related). That will give you an idea if it's hardware related to the HID device its speaking about. If you have either a bluetooth headset or speakers to use instead of this, it may be a start. What headset are you using?

I know they are sort of matched, but your difference in Memory chips 2x4gb and 1x8gb isn't ideal, and you should make sure they are in the correct spots on your motherboard (this is highly unlikely related, but something I observed) It might be worth running the 2x4 for a week or so and see if it changes anything, but again this is the biggest stretch

Next idea would be to wipe and reinstall Windows. I know everyone hates doing it, but it's just so nice to have things so clean software wise. All the downloads and installs and uninstalls of software and especially some games can really ruin how hardware speaks to each other. I highly recommend just going clean software every time you notice issues like this, as it solve maybe 70 percent of issues and is a lot easier than chasing specific problems.

My final thought is sort of a scary recommendation. There is an audio chip on your 1080, and like all things it needs to have heat dispersed from it when it gets high temp. Is there anything you are doing that could be considered audio intensive on the 1080? Maybe running a game to your TV with HDMI supplying audio and video? Even without that, just a random thought may be that the thermal pads in your 1080 might need to be replaced. Your GPU may seem like it is healthy, but if it was purchased pre-owned, it could be on it's way out or was mined with and is hating its life. It could just be outdated enough that the thermal pads are so dry that the audio chip is not conducting the heat to the heatsink, or even more-so from what you've said, a few things may be overheating in the 1080 (gpu chip, memory chips, audio chip could all be underperforming). I'd go software first, but if you're feeling crafty (you seem to have some knowledge), go watch some videos on replacing the thermal pads inside of your 1080. The pads themselves are cheap. The time to do it is probably going to be a few hours, but hopefully worth it. If you aren't already doing so, you may be able to verify a temperature issue with NZXT Cam software. Find out what your 1080 temps are supposed to be, and compare it to yours when your audio goes out.

Feel free to respond again if you'd like to. Your issue is certainly an interesting one, and with so many variables it's one i'd much rather have in person to look at and work on, but that's obviously impossible. I hope I gave you a little insight or some things to look in to. Curious if we find out what the problem is. I hate to say it, but my guess is either a fault with your headset (means you need to spend money), or an issue with the 1080 (means it might be dying or need a teardown for some thermal pad replacements)

Good luck, let me know of any updates.
