I think it depends on the volatility of the slot.

Something like "Wanted Dead or a Wild" shows this through their three different bonus buy options. The "Duel At Dawn" bonus very rarely gave me profit, but "The Great Train Robbery" can give profit, but has a lower max potential.

The higher the risk, the higher the reward. Therefore, if you bonus buy a slot with a high volatility, it's definitely possible for you to lose 10 times in a row.
