Merry Christmas to all in advance;)
Lolo Tomas, the best parรณl (Christmas lantern) maker in his Filipino barrio, found himself low on materials after a difficult year. The community's Christmas spirit was fading.
His granddaughter, Maya, worried about making a star for the upcoming Misa de Gallo (dawn masses).
Instead of buying new materials, Lolo Tomas asked the neighbors to donate scraps: old wrappers, dried husks, fabric bits, and shellsโa piece from every home.
He and Maya created a patchwork parรณl. Though unconventional, it was the most beautiful lantern yet.
When it was hung in the town square, its light shone brilliantly, symbolizing the community's shared hope and generosity. Lolo Tomas taught everyone that the true light of Christmas comes from unified hearts and giving, not from wealth.
