🎃 The Whispering Pumpkin
On Halloween night, twelve-year-old Lily found a strange pumpkin sitting on her porch — larger than any she had ever seen. It wasn’t there the day before, and no one in the neighborhood admitted leaving it.
When she leaned closer, she noticed something odd: the pumpkin’s face wasn’t carved, but grown into the rind — a twisted smile and hollow eyes that seemed to shimmer in the moonlight.
That night, as the wind howled outside, Lily heard a faint whisper coming from downstairs.
She crept into the kitchen, where the pumpkin sat on the table. Its mouth was moving.
> “Trick... or... truth?” it hissed.
Terrified but curious, Lily whispered back, “Truth.”
The pumpkin’s grin widened.
> “Your house isn’t haunted, Lily,” it said softly. “You are.”
The next morning, the pumpkin was gone.
But when Lily looked in the mirror — her reflection smiled back before she did.
