Let’s try my grandmas favorite. Good luck to everytone
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the place,
Not a creature was stirring—just firelight on my face.
The stockings hung crooked, one almost too low,
The dog claimed the rug, snoring soft and in tow.
The tree leaned a little, lights blinking off-beat,
Pine needles stuck stubbornly to sock-covered feet.
A mug in my hands, cocoa thick, nearly black,
Marshmallows sinking like plans I won’t get back.
When out by the door came a rattling sound,
Not sleigh bells—just wind knocking sense all around.
I opened it once, saw the cold, shut it fast,
Some things you don’t chase, some moments you pass.
Back by the fire, the world slowed its spin,
No debts, no deadlines, no needing to win.
Just quiet, just warmth, just being right here,
Breathing in calm at the end of the year.
So if Santa came by, I slept through it clean—
Best gift I got was the peace in between. 🎄
