My secondary school math teacher, Mrs Tan, changed my life without even knowing it. I was the kid who always sat at the back, failing every test, convinced I was “just not a math person”. She never gave up on me. She stayed back almost every week to explain things again, drew silly cartoons on the board to make formulas fun, and once even called my house to tell my parents I had improved by 12 marks (she sounded more excited than me). Because of her I passed O-levels, went to poly, and now I’m doing engineering. I never told her properly back then because I was shy. So today — thank you, Mrs Tan. You didn’t just teach math. You taught me I could be better than I thought I was.
