In 2016, I went to China to work illegally. I was 20 and she was only 16. I was an illegal immigrant, and when I saw pretty girls at work, I just admired them; I had no intention of flirting or marrying a Chinese woman. She was the one who spoke first, and she did all the talking while I just listened, resting my chin on my hand. Partly because I could only understand a little and couldn't speak much, and partly because her voice was so beautiful, like honey poured into my ears (gentle, warm). I'll probably never forget that voice for the rest of my life. Then I joked that I wanted her to teach me Chinese, haha. I said that, but mostly I just listened to her voice; I didn't absorb anything else into my head.Then she took my hand and wrote something on it that I couldn't translate 😬. When I went to work, she came down to the garden and sat opposite me, watching me work (I don't know if she was watching me or observing me ☺️). At 16, I was still dreaming. I didn't want to take advantage of that dreamy feeling, partly because I was an illegal immigrant and didn't want to affect the other Vietnamese people. Then the two of us parted ways. From now until 2016, which was the election year in China, the police were cracking down on illegal workers very hard, so my boss wouldn't pay. I only had half a day to get ready. I sent her a temporary message. The last message I received was "I love you" in English. Passing through Lang Son meant my China Unicom SIM card was no longer working.
