I was definitely ready for Christmas.
At least that’s what I told everyone. In reality, it was December 24th, my presents only existed in my head, and my Christmas playlist had exactly one song on repeat.
While everyone else was calmly drinking mulled wine, I decided now was the perfect time to “quickly” buy gifts. Two hours later, I came back with snacks, a random candle, and a bottle of wine I was extremely proud of. “This counts,” I said. And honestly? It did.
That evening, the Christmas lights flickered, the tree leaned suspiciously to the left (my fault), and somehow everything was perfect anyway. The food was great, the wine disappeared fast, and everyone was laughing.
I leaned back, raised my glass, and realized: Christmas doesn’t need to be perfect.
It just needs me to show up.
