From experience I tend to achieve more bonuses from manual spins rather than auto, my guess is that when auto is on it has a set time from spin to spin which makes it more predictable for the algorithm to hit, but in auto you have a longer wait time to spin because we have brakes in between and whatnot and I guess that the chances go higher because there is no time pattern you created
