Attention stake Senior Offcials and Moderators

Moderators, I kindly request a review of the current muting practices for individuals who communicate in English instead of Hindi. While Hindi is widely spoken in northern India and is taught in many schools across the country, its prevalence varies significantly in other regions.

In southern and parts of western India, Hindi is not as commonly spoken, and in some areas, it is barely understood. For context, here’s a general breakdown of Hindi comprehension in India:

North India: A majority are fluent or proficient in Hindi.

Western India: Hindi is partially known, with varying fluency depending on the state.

Southern India: Hindi usage is minimal, with a significant percentage of people unable to understand or communicate in it.

Eastern and Northeastern India: Hindi comprehension also varies widely, with limited usage in many areas.

India’s linguistic landscape is exceptionally diverse, with over 22 official languages and hundreds of dialects. Regional languages dominate daily communication in many states, making it unrealistic to expect Hindi to serve as a universal medium. English, on the other hand, often acts as a neutral bridge language in such a linguistically complex nation.

I urge the moderators to recognize these regional nuances and avoid imposing a one-size-fits-all standard. India’s complexity in language usage requires an understanding of the cultural and linguistic differences that define its diverse regions. Muting users for not adhering to one particular language standard risks alienating those from regions where Hindi is not commonly spoken.

Please consider adopting a more inclusive approach that accommodates this diversity. Thank you for understanding.

Hello there @panky161,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

As we have stated many times in the past, the only language which can be used is Hindi.

Using other dialects/languages will always result in warning or mute.

Kind regards,

Sanja
