badger Posted September 29, 2018 #1 Posted September 29, 2018 ... Ok, I’m going to bet I am the only person, who owns or has owned a laptop, that didn’t know this, and was only made aware of it just now. And if you know or have known about this, you have probably been absolutely outraged, like I am right now. Maybe you know, and didn’t think about it, I don’t know. But I am so beyond outraged, I might call the Attorney Generals Office, or Apple, or whoever tf is in charge of this faulty business practice, omg! ... They could make keyboards and laptops impervious to coffee and drink spills, AND THEY DONT!! How is that not a crime?! And how do the people that design computers sleep at night?! I understand planned obsolescence, and if a business wants to create or sell a product that they know will break of fall apart after so many uses, or whatever, and people actually buy, and replace the parts as needed, well, thank gawd for free enterprise. That’s great. Any less than ethical business can get away with a certain amount of shoddy practices, it’s human nature to cut corners and find angles and edges to make extra profits, especially when it is easy or overlooked, or even difficult and illegal... E spilled coffee on his laptop this morning. There are like 7 MacBook Pro or Air carcasses scattered across the floor as I am typing. I should take a picture so you all can see, but I don’t want anyone to cry looking at the disgusting waste of money these dead computers are. I know, for sure, that 4, possibly 5 of the 7 or 8 broken Macs, died from liquid incidents, it happens, it hurts, you buy another one and move on. But E thought he would show me why the YouTube videos kept iterating if your keyboard got wet, a lot of things could be wrong. He pulls back the metallic plastic layering under the keyboard and said there was 3 layers to protect it. Totally not interested, I peered around this iPad I’m using now, and kind of bothered to look, as feigning interest is a skill I find more handy everyday. I saw, with my eyes, for the first time, the keyboard underbelly. It is possible, and I just don’t know because I don’t take it upon myself to “fuck” with electronics, ever, that there is no way to waterproof these thing, or they need to breathe, or some technical ‘for the laptop to run we can’t seal the keyboard around the edges’ lie, that I am not privy to. But if there is not, there is no reason that the half inch gap around the keys, can’t simply be an air tight little bag, that doesn’t let the inside get wet. Or the entire inside for that matter. I know they have fans, so some ventilation for certain parts or areas is needed. But there has to be a certain percent of the important inside parts you could protect about 96% better than they are now. We buy products, that are cheap or technically junk, they are poorly designed, get ruined, we throw them away, whatever. But laptops are expensive. At the rate E replaces them, they are really expensive. And he buys refurbished ones. Whoever designs these overpriced, awesome machines, was paid a good deal of money to produce a top of the line product that appeals to the masses. And for all the speed and memory and new technological advancements that are integrated and implemented in the brilliant engineering process, they can’t make a laptop that won’t self destruct when you accidentally pour water on it, not even in it, just on it? If it is possible, why hasn’t the world come unglued at the electronics industry for selling us inevitable, preventable failure, when a foolproof solution could cost an extra 2 cents for plastic and 2 minutes of labor, rather than continuing to absolutely screw everybody over, waiting and wishing and hoping and praying for the inevitable spill that everybody does. They can put a man on the moon, take metal and plastic and screws that create a thing as magnificent as the computer is, and these amazing collective minds can’t make one that can get wet?! *not bothering with proofreading, grammar, etc. I apologize for any redundancy and or errors* Replying to a post pays?
