Law-abiding citizens agree to perform cryptocurrency operations on regulated platforms and provide personal information in the interests of security. At the same time, crypto payments on p2p exchangers and in darknet are popular among lawbreakers. This opinion was expressed by Matthew Allen of the United States Immigration and Customs Police (ICE).

In the report, Matthew Allen analyzed the role played by cryptocurrencies in the drug trade. He said that on the darknet, Bitcoin and Monero (XMR) are leading as a means of payment among buyers of fentanyl and its analogues.

According to him, the law enforcement agencies of the United States authorized to fight drug trafficking are identifying on darknet the buyers of prohibited substances at the stage of putting cryptocurrency into Fiat.

“When such an exchange takes place, a vulnerability arises. Using surveillance, undercover operations, insider information, financial and blockchain analysis, our agency reveals criminals and international criminal organizations, ”Allen explained.

Last year, Matthew Allen stated that criminal organizations are increasingly using digital currencies for money laundering and other illegal activities.
