emberraax47 Posted Friday at 04:47 PM #27 Posted Friday at 04:47 PM Mississippi Grind stuck with me for weeks after, mostly cause I kept thinking about that final poker hand where Mendelsohn just looks so empty even when hes up. I watched it on a random Tuesday after losing 80 bucks on slots and honestly it made me feel a little better about my own dumb decisions lol
wineoselle Posted Friday at 05:06 PM #28 Posted Friday at 05:06 PM once caught my dad trying to watch the old James Caan film 'The Gambler' like it was a training manual, he still lost fifty bucks on a horse named Glue Factory the next day
newcastle888 Posted Friday at 05:18 PM #30 Posted Friday at 05:18 PM Rounders if you like poker. For sports betting, uncut gems or two for the money.
gusb4oql6ps Posted Saturday at 04:31 AM #31 Posted Saturday at 04:31 AM rounders is teh goat ngl, and casino hits realy hard too if you want that old school vibe ?
sf43ermitmilch Posted Saturday at 04:31 AM #32 Posted Saturday at 04:31 AM every saturday, best show: eddies stream lol
voraltos620 Posted Saturday at 06:14 AM #33 Posted Saturday at 06:14 AM if you can handle subtitles theres a japanese series called kaiji ultimate survivor where the mc has to clear weird high stakes games to pay off debt, it’s over the top but the mind games are ridiculously clever
rio352thek Posted Saturday at 06:49 AM #34 Posted Saturday at 06:49 AM rounders is teh goat ngl, and casino is realy good too if you want old school vibes ? ?
Ryxmia Posted Saturday at 07:46 AM #35 Posted Saturday at 07:46 AM Between Rounders and Mississippi Grind I'm taking Mississippi Grind any day, Rounders feels like a poker fairy tale but Mississippi Grind actually captures how sad and compulsive real gambling can get.

Havenax Posted Saturday at 08:13 AM #39 Posted Saturday at 08:13 AM Mississippi Grind is a solid pick but honestly I'd queue up The Gambler (the 1974 one with Caan) right after, the self destruction spiral hits way harder when you watch them back to back.
ryxora Posted Saturday at 08:17 AM #40 Posted Saturday at 08:17 AM Mississippi Grind really nails that slow bleed of hope, reminded me too much of my own busted Vegas trips.
peltra Posted Saturday at 11:37 AM #41 Posted Saturday at 11:37 AM honestly i was never into gambling shows til my roommate put on the sting and i got hooked on the con artist angle more than the poker, the whole setup with paul newman just makes you feel smart for keeping up with the tricks. it's old but it aged way better than i expected and now i lowkey wanna watch the hustler next sunday.
kyreless Posted yesterday at 04:29 AM #42 Posted yesterday at 04:29 AM I tried watchin Uncut Gems on a flight once and the guy next to me kept peeking at my screen like he was sweating the bets too.
Wineostia0 Posted yesterday at 10:45 AM #43 Posted yesterday at 10:45 AM Mississippi Grind really is a solid shout, the way it shows the quit desperation instead of just the big wins is something most gambling flicks miss. I'd also toss in The Gambler from 1974, it's old but James Caan nails that self destructive itch better than anything else I've seen
pyxkaess0 Posted 23 hours ago #44 Posted 23 hours ago if you can find it california split from the 70s is solid, altman just lets the characters drift through card rooms and tracks without any big speech about addiction. it doesn't try to glamourize any of it which is kind of refreshing
ace80tqx Posted 2 hours ago #45 Posted 2 hours ago Rounders gets all the love but Mississippi Grind actually captures that desperate road trip depression way better, like you can feel every bad decision weighing on them while Rounders still plays out like a hero's journey.
asheemf256p Posted 2 hours ago #46 Posted 2 hours ago Rounders is fun but it romanticizes poker way too much for my taste.
max6hjk87un Posted 2 hours ago #47 Posted 2 hours ago rounders clears owning mahowny easily, the underground card scenes are just way more rewatchable
neo69io3ld3 Posted 1 hour ago #48 Posted 1 hour ago Ooh if you’re up for something based on a wild true story watch The Queen’s Gambit miniseries, the chess betting scenes and tournament buildup honestly had me glued way more than I expected.
dan8sy96b Posted 44 minutes ago #50 Posted 44 minutes ago Rounders has the sharper tension but Owning Mahowny nails the sad, quiet obsession way better.
