Etude Posted December 8, 2018 #1 Posted December 8, 2018 Hey there everyone, have you ever felt so absorbed into gambling that you unconsciously start to ignore the things happening/people around you during the gambling session or felt exhausted gambling but you cannot seem to stop yourself? I would say that this seems to well be an after effect especially for those people who have been gambling for years and years now. Gambling definitely holds a strong graps on our emotions such as giving a unsatiable feeling of high during wins which keeps you wanting to play more to get the feeling repeatedly even magnified and then on the opposite scale too bringing unbelievable depths of low during the worse times of losses. As the old saying about gambling goes "The House always wins", it is unlikely that a typical person would have the wealth and bankroll to defeat a casino in most cases so it is actually a losing battle from the beginning but we still take our chances, right? So what are your thoughts on this area of discussion about the kind of depths gambling can bring a person or yourself?
Shaniqua Posted December 8, 2018 #2 Posted December 8, 2018 ive done things which i am ashamed of to get money for gambling... thiings i never in a 1000000x years i would think i would do... i am in the bottom of the bottom of the pit of pits try not to get sucked in guys... yes the house always wins... but only if you play long enough and only if you start with bad luck
barbaris Posted December 8, 2018 #3 Posted December 8, 2018 I try not to depend much on gambling, but they drag me down. Sometimes I can spend the whole day playing.
badger Posted December 8, 2018 #4 Posted December 8, 2018 Absolutely not Etude. Think of gambling as a revolving bank account. You deposit money here and there, and occasionally, when u really need some of the money back, u get lucky, and the bank gives u some back. Not all of it, cuz they gotta make a few bucks, for overhead. But it comes and goes... Bottomless pit, lol, rent, renting, now there’s a bottomless pit.

While I agree you can waste an infinite amount of money on gambling, the same is true for most things in life. I like to think, at least when it comes to gambling, that I can keep things in control. Set a win target and if you stop having fun stop gambling. If you can be strong enough to do that, then you will always be the master of gambling sites.
Realraidengod Posted December 8, 2018 #6 Posted December 8, 2018 i think so because u will always think that u will win big but when u win u dont stop u always go for more than u end up busting and that cycle never changes but if you have control then its not a bottomless pit if you dont then it is
zeriko Posted December 8, 2018 #7 Posted December 8, 2018 The pit definitely has a bottom the only problem is that the bottom keeps getting lower and the top keeps getting higher so to reach the top one must climb even more and when you finally do reach the top it's almost impossible to hold on because your fingers slip as you plummet down to the bottom
chrisconn63 Posted December 9, 2018 #8 Posted December 9, 2018 yes gambling is a waste of time and money. a very dark botomless pit filled with false hopes and dreams
Stevenwonder Posted December 9, 2018 #9 Posted December 9, 2018 Sure has been for me. I don't know if you ever get the feeling of a numbness like I do, but sometimes I can win a lot and not even flinch when I start throwing way too big a bets. I get this dulled out feeling until I can snap out of it but most of the time it ends up being way too late
jualid Posted December 9, 2018 #10 Posted December 9, 2018 Yeah, it happens to me. Too much focus on gambling and don't care about others/people around me. I'm trying to become like that anymore.

DviouS Posted December 9, 2018 #12 Posted December 9, 2018 Gambling is a bottomless pit... if you allow it, to be, a bottomless pit. There are alot of ways to turn gambling around, so things are more in your favor... you just have to make an effort to do so, and not treat it like it's an arcade game. Learn from your losses when you lose, otherwise, a bottomless pit you shall feed.
SovietDoggo Posted December 9, 2018 #13 Posted December 9, 2018 After I gamble and lose I always feel bad, It sucks building and losing it all and it frustrating to just have money that disappears. I haven't deposited in a while because it's not worth it.

Of course there are ways to minimize the house edge and win, but overall, the casino makes a profit, leaving the players worse-off financially (as a group). So overall it is a bottomless pit, but it can vary for individual players IMO.

This is one way to look at gambling that I never actually able to put in words yet until you said it now.

After I take a step back (whenever I’m not too deeply absorbed), the road seems to lead nowhere with no end in sight. Now... continuing on into the scary abyss is an experience that I would not want to go through later on in life. But... what to do? 🤯

The house edge will make you bust in the long run, so gambling for profits in the long term is a bad idea. For me, I am prepared to lose what I wager, so I won't cry about any losses that I have. Losses are expected in gambling due to the house edge.
zeriko Posted December 14, 2018 #19 Posted December 14, 2018 Unless you stop and walk away after a big win, its most certainly a bottomless pit, at least from my experiences.

Marrcos1337 Posted December 14, 2018 #21 Posted December 14, 2018 “Gambling is the child of avarice, the brother of iniquity, and the father of mischief.” – George Washington Unable to pass a state budget or solve the state pension debacle, Illinois senators are placing their bets on SB7, a massive gambling bill that will expand casinos and video gambling. Bad news: In their eagerness to put gambling profits into state coffers, the Illinois Senate ignored protocol and called several bill amendments for a vote on February 28 without a committee hearing. Amendments 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8 passed with 31 Yes votes and 26 No votes. Potential good news: There are seven remaining amendments to this bill to be voted on. The way they set it up is that SB7 cannot take effect UNLESS all 12 amendments pass. Therefore amendments 1, 4, 9, 10, 12, 13, and 16 remain.
