xceddd Posted Tuesday at 05:45 PM #1 Posted Tuesday at 05:45 PM I wanna learn poker i have been watching videos but i need some solid suggestions to learn it without losing money
lyraeon Posted Thursday at 05:48 PM #2 Posted Thursday at 05:48 PM Honestly bro just grind play money tables first, no risk and you’ll pick up the basics way faster than watching vids alone.
Voxver8 Posted Thursday at 08:19 PM #3 Posted Thursday at 08:19 PM Yeah play money is decent but tbh you'll learn faster once actual chips are on the line even if it's micro stakes. Just set a tiny budget and treat it like tuition.
ladyen51 Posted Thursday at 08:45 PM #4 Posted Thursday at 08:45 PM Just use the free rolls on ACR or ignition to get a feel for real play without depositing, that's how I started without torching my bankroll.
myxlia38 Posted Thursday at 09:23 PM #5 Posted Thursday at 09:23 PM Yeah freerolls are the move for sure, plus you can rail the stakes forum here and post some hands for feedback when you get stuck.
luis18 Posted yesterday at 01:25 AM #6 Posted yesterday at 01:25 AM nvm the vids and hit up those freerolls bro, real play is where you learn the most ? LFG!
meriirra5 Posted yesterday at 11:34 AM #7 Posted yesterday at 11:34 AM Have you tried finding a casual home game with pennies instead of a formal online table, or is that not an option where you live?
Steinarique4 Posted yesterday at 12:17 PM #8 Posted yesterday at 12:17 PM yo just grind the free tables till you got the flow down, then hop into a micro SNG with like a 0.25 buy in or something so the sweat feels real but you wont bust your roll lol
mikkys Posted 10 hours ago #9 Posted 10 hours ago I got my feet wet playing deuces wild video poker first tbh, it let me learn hand rankings without the table pressure. Once I stopped misreading flushes as straights I moved to micro stakes sit n gos and lost like 6 dollars over two weeks before it clicked.
tyxkadra Posted 10 hours ago #10 Posted 10 hours ago Freerolls are way better than just watching videos because you finally feel the pace of a real hand without sweating your deposit, but mixing that with a penny home game is where the fun actually sticks. I would grind a few free tourneys to nail down the mechanics and then find some friends for a micro cash night, the chat alone teaches you more than any YouTube clip.
havenique Posted 9 hours ago #11 Posted 9 hours ago playing for points not cash at first lets you focus on betting patterns without your wallet screaming at ya
Runemia Posted 8 hours ago #12 Posted 8 hours ago I started by grinding play money tournaments on a few sites for two weeks straight, and the first time someone slow rolled me there actually sutng which made the move to 0.50 cash games way less emotional.
nyxlor Posted 6 hours ago #13 Posted 6 hours ago any favorite hand rankings app or drill that helped you learn to read a board quick, before you ever hit a real table?
striketos Posted 6 hours ago #14 Posted 6 hours ago Honestly I learned more losing 50 cents in a sit n go than from 10 videos, the tight fold against a maniac with a low pair finally clicked there
sylelvi9 Posted 5 hours ago #15 Posted 5 hours ago i basically setup a fake money home game with two friends and we called out our thought process each street, that helped me see how often i was lying to myself about having a strong hand, stuff videos never clicked on. actual stakes came later with 0.01/0.02 tables and suddenly folding bottom pair felt like a superpower
sophienne Posted 5 hours ago #16 Posted 5 hours ago have you tried those free poker apps that let you play against real people without any cash at stake, or do you think that still misses the stress of actual losses?
legacyerra Posted 5 hours ago #17 Posted 5 hours ago I lost more fake chips to a friend who always raised with junk than I ever did in low stakes real money.
woonixarium Posted 5 hours ago #18 Posted 5 hours ago any app you been testing the videos sayin to grab first?
Luxlor Posted 4 hours ago #19 Posted 4 hours ago are you mostly thinking about tournaments or cash games, cos the way you approach learning those two is pretty different and it might change what you should focus on first
ryxioick805 Posted 4 hours ago #20 Posted 4 hours ago do you know if youer more into the slow grind of cash games or the survival vibe of tourneys yet
shredelori Posted 3 hours ago #21 Posted 3 hours ago so what prat of the game trips you up the most watching videos, the math side or reading what other players might be holding
