slavaan Posted February 22, 2019 #1 Posted February 22, 2019 Okay, this is pretty crazy. Some user did a $14 Ethereum transaction, and was charged a $311,577 transaction fee! This is really insanely unusual and I never heard about anything like that before. https://all-stocks.net/a-user-was-charged-over-300k-in-fees-for-a-14-eth-transaction/ Some speculate that it's some sort of money laundering scheme but I'm not so sure... What do you think?
Exadao Posted February 22, 2019 #2 Posted February 22, 2019 May be that only mistake, want to send $300k with $14 fee or what? i think impossible if send $14 with tx fee $300k🙄
polor12 Posted February 22, 2019 #3 Posted February 22, 2019 In America we called that fake news..there is noway that transaction like that will go through...if he bought .096 eth..($14) at current value..without the fee..with fee.. $0.125 (0.00085)...09515..will be the amount he gets...so for some to get or withdraw that amount with the fee so unbelievable high..no one will pay that...and would not get charge that much because the fee is taken out for whatever being transferred...

You always have to do that to make sure that everything is just what you want to pay. Who on earth would say "okay, that fee is fine" and continue and actually go through with the transaction. If this is real news in what you are saying, this changes absolutely everything as it comes to show that some people are beyond stupid. Not only that but a lot of money gone to complete waste. I pity those who don't have a brain. It's quite funny at the same time though if I had to tell the truth. I don't even know even after looking at this whether this is real because I looked at the blockchain but I don't even see this possible. Could someone else please clarify with me whether this transaction on the blockchain is even real? You have private key you could sent whatever amount of fee you like as long as it more than the minimum fee. Mostly the wallet will warn you about unusual fee but in this the transaction has been confirmed. So its true that someone paying that fee.
EpicGord Posted February 22, 2019 #6 Posted February 22, 2019 That guy just did not done this once but he done it quite a few more times and its seem he just want be generous to ethereum miners lol and that guys paid $586170 in fees for these 5 unusual transactions 😏

Whose crazy enough to pay fees much larger than he is buying haha. He should have watch carefully the gwei gas price of buying eth. I feel sorry for his loss if its really true.

ivaylo2000 Posted February 23, 2019 #10 Posted February 23, 2019 He just want fast transaction. And for 100% success pay this fee to get first transaction in block

williamshennie9 Posted February 23, 2019 #14 Posted February 23, 2019 I would also assume it is money laundering, especially if the person had some way of knowing specifically who the fee would go to. I would love to know more about this when the investigation is complete.
Zaynab Shah Posted February 23, 2019 #15 Posted February 23, 2019 Umm, i would kick myself hard if that ever happened to me! Why would you pay that much in fee for $14! Doesnt anybody double check the transaction anymore before confirming them? Wow, that is like me paying the bank 300k to withdraw. I wonder what that person was thinking or not thinking! I hope it was a mistake and that it would be returned! That is just crazy!
bmg Posted February 26, 2019 #16 Posted February 26, 2019 all i have to say is that maybe this dude is a child or shouldn't be messing around with crypto transactions.
HumberRolls Posted March 25, 2019 #17 Posted March 25, 2019 Hahaha $ 300k in fee, is something crazy, I preferred in vice versa, jajjaaa must be someone millionaire who gives money to the miners
barbaris Posted April 1, 2019 #18 Posted April 1, 2019 What is the point of paying so much for a transaction fee with the amount of $ 14. This is stupid or just a random mistake.

It is impossible for person make one and the same mistake several time. But if you take a look on transactions that this address makes, then you will see that he makes weird things. Like a bulk of transactions with same amount to same address in few minutes. For example why sent 5 times 10 eth in 1 minute, when you can send 50 eth ? Crazy.

Eben Posted April 15, 2019 #25 Posted April 15, 2019 😱 Whoever it is I feel sorry.... Would it benefit a miner if they saved such a deliberated transaction till when they mine a block, after all, if they are the ones mining it, all the money would come back to them? 🙄 🤨
