The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the first with 48 teams instead of 32, and opinions are still divided.

Supporters say it’s great for football because more countries get the chance to compete on the biggest stage. We’ve seen nations make history, passionate fan bases, and a more global tournament than ever before.

Critics argue that the expansion has lowered the overall quality, created too many one-sided matches, and made the tournament feel longer than necessary.

Personally, I feel the 48-team World Cup has given more opportunities for countries that would have never had the chance to participate in a World Cup a shot . But overall , it’s now easier to break records such as highest goal scorer / assist records
