wry Posted March 26, 2019 #1 Posted March 26, 2019 Okay, I know many of our favorite Stake colleagues stream on Twitch. One of the cool things about Twitch is you could pay for things using Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash (ABC) via Bitpay. However, it now seems that Twtich has stopped accepting Bitcoin. Fortunately, the news report isn't confirmed yet. I was sad when Steam stopped taking Bitcoin, but at least then it was because the price was mooning and the TX fees were really high, that isn't an excuse for Twitch. Has anyone used crypto to pay for services at Twitch? Link: https://www.coindesk.com/amazon-owned-twitch-removes-crypto-payments-for-subscriptions
peel1 Posted March 26, 2019 #2 Posted March 26, 2019 Thats stupid why did they stop accepting i really dont see a reason they would take it off. ive payed for some bits using bitpay sucks they got rid of it (especially as crypto is coming around to be more accepted)
Shaniqua Posted March 27, 2019 #3 Posted March 27, 2019 ill be honest i didnt even know that twitch was crypto friendly, but anytime that there are large companies abandoning crypto support is no good for the larger crypto community as a whole i think
KiXxnTRiXx Posted March 27, 2019 #4 Posted March 27, 2019 I did not even know you could use crypto as payment on twitch!.. then again, i never really had to use any kind of payments other than a few times to tip my favorite streamers from league a few years ago.. so its been a while.. hopefully its just a rumor, cause that would be moving backwards in having crypto be more globally used.. since twitch is hugely used worldwide, that would be really sad to lose that kind of connection and somewhat advertising for crypto currency!.. need more sites/aps to implement it, not pull out of it.. would be sad day indeed!.
williamshennie9 Posted March 27, 2019 #5 Posted March 27, 2019 That's stupid in my opinion. Why cut out an option which people are using to pay for your service? I have never bought anything on twitch, but I would much rather pay in crypto than take out my credit card to pay.
Etude Posted March 27, 2019 #6 Posted March 27, 2019 This would actually seem to be a step backwards for Twitch to stop supporting cryptocurrency payments for their services! Hopefully this changes in time, and they support it again.
bmg Posted March 29, 2019 #7 Posted March 29, 2019 That is really a sad thing for our favorite streamers here at Stake. Hopefully Twitch will wake up and change there minds because that is a pretty dumb move on there part and i can see with this that they may lose some customers/users of Twitch.
kangarostaples Posted March 29, 2019 #8 Posted March 29, 2019 What is Bits ? I have a button logo (looks much a like Ethereum logo) saying "Join the party with Bits" Basically it doesnt look like they removed crypto payments, they integrated their own crypto token/coin. What do you think ?
br1 Posted March 29, 2019 #9 Posted March 29, 2019 not a good move from them, they will surely lose atleast a few people with this step they took
barbaris Posted April 1, 2019 #10 Posted April 1, 2019 They deprive themselves of profit. After all, there are a lot of people who are willing to pay cryptocurrency. In my opinion this is stupid, but I think that they will soon change their decision.
Kate Posted April 3, 2019 #11 Posted April 3, 2019 Well to be honest i can understand why because of price fluctuations and also transaction time and they go through a lot of trouble probably to convert btc to usd. But sad to see that we can't support streamers with bitcoin anymore
martianarmy Posted April 3, 2019 #12 Posted April 3, 2019 Yes they removed. But there is one process. 1. Create Neteller account its free. 2. You can deposit money in Neteller either BTC or BCH using BitPay wallet . (It will take 2-3% charge). 3. Now goto TwitchTV and pay using Netller. I tried this and its simple and working fine.

Thanks for that method but don't we have to verify the neteller account first ? and then only we could subscribe ? I would prefer buying a twitch prime account and sub through that tbh
martianarmy Posted April 3, 2019 #14 Posted April 3, 2019 @Kate You need to verify only if you want to withdraw money to Bank. But i didn't verified mine. i just deposited with Bitcoin cash and i subbed in twitch. No verification is asked. And in our country, there is no Twitch Prime availability.
ILLarion Posted April 7, 2019 #15 Posted April 7, 2019 cryptocurrency is still a lot of obstacles and a long way, but remember what happened at the beginning ??? The banking system looked high, if at all. On better days, bitcoin stirred the minds of many bureaucrats.
675675 Posted September 25, 2019 #16 Posted September 25, 2019 this is not the most sensible step they lose a lot of money
