A Bosch Blockchain-driven Fridge?

Wien Energie, the Austria’s largest energy provider has developed a blockchain-driven fridge in partnership with tech giant Bosch.

Wien Energie presented the new model during the crypto conference in Vienna on April/03.

The main goal behind the project is to increase consumer interest in the sustainable consumption of energy. A blockchain solution in this case allows one to choose the source of the energy, be that a solar panel or a wind power plant. Each kilowatt used by the fridge can be traced to its origin, the release reads.

Moreover, the blockchain fridge can be fully operated via smartphone. A user is able to control the temperature of the fridge and freezer, check whether the door is properly closed, and trace the energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

According to the official statement, the model is not yet on sale. Wien Energie and Bosch will first test the blockchain fridge with three pilot customers in the coming months.

Wien Energie CEO Peter Gönitzer considers blockchain a great opportunity to reduce the unnecessary waste of energy, the release notes. According to him, the decentralized ecosystem could contribute to creating a transparent and user-friendly energy market.

I found it really interesting as it proves that Blockchain really came to stay.. but then my questions are:

  • What is the point of a Blockchain-driven Fridge?
  • How much would it cost?
  • Would anyone ever buy it?

Cool stuff. I would like such a refrigerator, but probably the price will be high. I thought I had to pay crypto through the blockchain to open the fridge and get food:D.

There are literally companies that are introducing this feature and i am pretty sure that Samsung has already innovated this feature in their fridge products. There is nothing new.

I read about this on bitcoin.com and also i read another colum about and they say that is super energy efficient .  You can read the amount of power its putting out on your cell phone if your not home.  To me it's a little to high tech but for other it may be exactly what they want.

The features of this fridge sound pretty cool, but honestly, most people don't care about the electricity consumption of their fridge, or about carbon emissions etc. (even if it was using too much electricity, it is still better than buying a new fridge) :D If I did get one, it would mostly be to show off to guests.

I would imagine resturants can use this or places that use fridges for bussiness as a lot of power is needed for these appliances so making sure their as efficient as possible saves money. These things can also be used to make other appliances more efficient too!

the first thing I read looked very awkward and I would argue if this was a fridge or a food refrigerator. after being understood this is a very good step where energy can be saved more. And if it's right to be produced, I will order one for the furniture in my house.
