blueprints Posted April 9, 2019 #1 Posted April 9, 2019 Ok so what sparked this interest in me is hearing several people in the past who tell me that they started some playing some sort of gambling game when they were like really young, like as low as 11. So I want to hear more perspectives on this, What do you think about kids gambling? Im not talking about like legit poker or btc online dice haha but like gambling with friends or maybe even other kids with cards. Do you think this is unhealthy because it may start that addiction wiring in their brains too soon? The thrill of winning, and feelings of greed, i personally think these things are better processed as adults, i think kids would be more likely to get addicted or develop bad habits. Though on the other hand if they truly can play some sort of gambling game without the focus of winning money and it be purley for the fun, then i think that would be ok but i dont know of anything like that. What age did you guys start gambling? For those that started young, do you feel it had some negative effect on you growing up? Any regrets? Or do you feel it was harmless and not that big a deal. Would you let your kids experience what gambling is?
ceastem Posted April 10, 2019 #2 Posted April 10, 2019 Well here in the Philippines, whenever there is someone that dies in a certain province, there would always be this gambling game called "tong-its". It's hard not to get exposed to it as a child, even I played it since I was 7 I think (no money involved ofc). Nevertheless, I can normally play this now with friends, (only with small money involved), and we never got to the point to sell everything or anything like that to gamble. Nope, no negative effects in me growing up, since i can control myself more easily financially in gambling. No regrets for me cause I had a good time with friends and will do the same even if I go back in time haha. For me, supporting kids experience things firsthand is the good way to go. The more you restrict them, the more they wanna do it. Let them experience it first and let them feel the consequences, that way, it will be etched to their minds that it is not worth doing and will not be peer pressured when the time comes.
KiXxnTRiXx Posted April 10, 2019 #3 Posted April 10, 2019 lel.. i started before i knew what money was.. my grandma would play bingo with me, my two siblings and my cousins whenever she babysat us.. she would pay for everyones cards since we had no money.. so even if she won, it was hers to begin with.. at that time i did not realize the value of those moments with her playing bingo.. some would prolly say kids should be thought that at a young age.. well, we were kids, greed was not a factor really.. we didnt really have the same outlook or desire for money.. we just wanted to win.. but the valuable lesson i was reffering to was.. my grandma, even though she did not have much money and it was difficult to come by, she wasnt concerned about it.. she played for fun and kept us entertained to pass the time.. she demonstrated no greed or desired for riches.. she was happy because we were happy and played for fun together as a family.. to this day, every weekend.. my family and extended family would get together.. eat, drink and ofcourse play some bingo.. i miss you grandma! 😢
bmg Posted April 10, 2019 #4 Posted April 10, 2019 plane and simple... if your under 18 you should not and are not allowed to gamble... Period!
ivaylo2000 Posted April 10, 2019 #5 Posted April 10, 2019 Gambling for children under 18 years of age should be limited. They do not yet understand the effects of gambling and can not assess the money. It's just a harmless game for them
Moderator hanvee Posted April 10, 2019 Moderator #6 Posted April 10, 2019 hell.... i would click into over 18 button even i younger than that .... so this question hard to anwser tho but last few month have a kid msg me on telegram thru a group and ask me a question : can i tell admin of that site give me back what i deposit and lost it tho , he just around 16 and he took his moom money like 500$ to depo n gambling ...and ofc admin cant return it back, so he go everywhere ask ppl help him tell admin return the money, see... kid play gambling is trouble tho
barbaris Posted April 10, 2019 #7 Posted April 10, 2019 I believe that before the age of 18 there should be a ban on gambling, when a person begins to earn money, he will manage them himself, and up to 18 should not.
Etude Posted April 14, 2019 #8 Posted April 14, 2019 I believe they should not gamble under 18 years of age because it is very unlikely they are using their own source of income to sustain the habit of gambling.
Kate Posted April 17, 2019 #9 Posted April 17, 2019 People younger than 18 ? I would say no. Gambling should be for people who are above the age of 18 and so because once you be 19 you become more mature and your childish thoughts starts to fade and take everything in a mature manner.
allisonn Posted April 17, 2019 #10 Posted April 17, 2019 I grinded multitable limit poker when I was young, if anything I became a lot more risk-averse.
jinz Posted April 17, 2019 #11 Posted April 17, 2019 I was still on elementary when I was taught how to play bingo by my aunties together with my cousins that are also minors. That time we only do it for past time and for fun with little money involve (0.1 usd and you're good for few rounds). Also, like what Ceastem said, whenever someone dies on provinces here in Philippines you can see people gambling on the funeral. Gamblling is somewhat a normal thing here even if you are still a minor. For me, learning how to gamble (play bingo) while I was still a minor doesn't affect me badly since I only do it for fun and past time since I have so much free time when I was still on elementary. I will for sure teach my future kids how to play bingo FOR FUN only.
Jiesamsoe Posted April 18, 2019 #12 Posted April 18, 2019 I think age is not a problem, because every gambling website has minimum age requirements, so when approving a rule on the website, everything has been calculated, it will be better if the player is more than 18 years old, but in fact many players under that age, it means that all the risks return to each person, the most important thing is how to control emotions when playing, because sometimes people who are more than 18 years old cannot control their emotions when playing, essentially the age in my opinion is not problem.
OsmaNN Posted April 19, 2019 #13 Posted April 19, 2019 I've been gambling since I was 9 There are many players under the age of 18 I think that's not a good thing.
