wry Posted April 22, 2019 #1 Posted April 22, 2019 One of the things that is always held up as a sign of adoption of crypto by is its acceptance by large merchants. Well, crossing the news desks today is that crypto company Moon has designed a way to use Bitcoin's new Lighting Network to allow users to pay for Amazon purchases with Bitcoin! While this is good for Bitcoin you do have to use the Lighting Network, which adds some complexity, by installing Moon's browser extension. Also, the browser extension is still being reviewed by Google, so it is not expected to go live until Wednesday. While this is fine for users, it's important to remember that Amazon never actually touches the Bitcoin, Moon handles all of that, basically by aligning with the traditional credit card networks. So while it is a step in the right direction, it's not a lot better than loading your Bitpay card and then using that to buy stuff on Amazon (though I expect the fees will be lower). Still, this is an exciting development! Has anyone used the Lighting Network yet? If not, this may be a good reason to start! cryptofly Posted April 22, 2019 #2 Posted April 22, 2019 This is what we all, the bitcoiners, need; the mass adoption is on its way! Now Amazon would be very careful in not to make mistakes with this amazing project as the ecosystem does not need a failure when trying to go to the masses. And specially not a failure with this big "internet monster". Maybe is time for all of us to become more active in the society to promote bitcoin and cryptos. Soon Starbucks will join them.
KiXxnTRiXx Posted April 23, 2019 #3 Posted April 23, 2019 Noice.. may not be direct transactions with Amazon, but as you said, its certainly a step forward and perhaps if Amazon sees how sell it does (hopefully), that they will implement crypto payments themselves.. and this will certainly bring cryptos existence to broader range of audience..
williamshennie9 Posted April 23, 2019 #4 Posted April 23, 2019 I've never used the lighting network before, but it sure does sound like super good news for bitcoin! The fact that such a giant retailer has decided to incorporate this is excellent news for the future sustainability of bitcoin. The more people that accept it, the more popular it becomes and the more likely it is that bitcoin will succeed
rajamishra Posted April 23, 2019 #5 Posted April 23, 2019 hello all friends if it happen then its a good news for gamblers due to reduce of fluctuation and increase users.if it happen within a shorter time then possible all coin price go to the moon.
AnaName Posted April 26, 2019 #6 Posted April 26, 2019 Well, it's a good news not only for Bitcoin, but also for Amazon: more customers, popularity, income, etc.
poloalto Posted April 26, 2019 #7 Posted April 26, 2019 this is very good news where we do not need to leave the house to buy goods simply by transferring the bitcoin that we have to the seller's wallet and we are just waiting for our goods to arrive
Seeker Posted April 26, 2019 #8 Posted April 26, 2019 It's time, a good step. I think this is just the beginning. Now I see that live in modern world) Go crypto_)
Etude Posted April 26, 2019 #9 Posted April 26, 2019 Seems like a great adoption of Bitcoin into the mainstream markets with the intiative on Amzon's part.
Pandarian Posted April 26, 2019 #10 Posted April 26, 2019 Nice to see this development. At least I can spend mt Bitcoin in Amazon as I cant use BitPay card
Kate Posted April 29, 2019 #11 Posted April 29, 2019 I tried to get into the lightning network but for some reason i can't get the wallet to start i have tried installing the latest version and updating and doing everything but still no plan , hopefully there is an online wallet for this.
lotad Posted April 29, 2019 #12 Posted April 29, 2019 First I need to understand how lightning networks works and if site like amazon and many other start accepting lighting or any cryto as payment option then it is good news for consumers.
Shaniqua Posted April 29, 2019 #13 Posted April 29, 2019 hmmm very interesting... i honeslty never heard of what the lightning network was... or is... as in.. time to do some research into it... the way it is phrased seems that the lightning network is a integeral part of btc blockchain stuff... but for some reason... i doubt that... i guess we shall find out soon after some searchre
BLXN Posted April 29, 2019 #14 Posted April 29, 2019 I'm surprised Bezos hasn't created its own blockchain coin- with the amount of wealth which Amazon represents, it's practically its own country, replete with industry, and resources. Perhaps this is a stepping stone for them - but I can't imagine something so huge would rely on this many external networks for its operation.
Hoffguy Posted April 29, 2019 #15 Posted April 29, 2019 Funny how first few posters kept saying lighting network made me think of flashing lights, and not the lightning speeds. Interesting article wry. Although not Amazon directly, if it's successful, maybe it'll help push Amazon towards direct crypto usage, wouldn't think they'd stand back and watch another company get rich on the conversion fees for too long.

I also have no idea how it works, but the fact that Amazon is implementing this really shows how bitcoin is becoming more and more widespread, which is excellent news in terms of the sustainability of bitcoin.
ceastem Posted April 30, 2019 #17 Posted April 30, 2019 Ohh this is big news for me! Another use for crypto is hereeeee although i prefer cash on delivery than this, it's still great to know that i can have other mode of payment. Most people in other countries have credit cards, even teenagers. But here in the Philippines, only professional adults have one and most sites require credit card payments, maybe because of crypto, we can all have other modes of payment now then
aqua Posted April 30, 2019 #18 Posted April 30, 2019 in my country cryptocurency is not permitted for buying and selling to buy an item, just as an investment
chankhoreID Posted April 30, 2019 #19 Posted April 30, 2019 good news for buying with bitcoin at Amazon i wish more coin can use on Amazon actually.
blueprints Posted May 1, 2019 #20 Posted May 1, 2019 but does this not require any personal information to be given? Because if not then that atleast makes use of bitcoins anonymous feature! You would just have to use a fake amazon account and then just pay with bitcoin using this ! Very nice for money laundering lol
Kate Posted May 1, 2019 #21 Posted May 1, 2019 If do amazon does go through with this and decides to establish this as a payment method not only would it be good and bad , Good in the sense because other companies might also start adding the payment option and bad money laundering can be easily done.
675675 Posted September 25, 2019 #22 Posted September 25, 2019 it’s good that large market players such as amazon make it possible to buy goods for BTC
