Hey Stakers,

On this post, i would like to discuss with you all about something i just learned a few minutes ago which inspired me to create  this new topic. (thanks mavbot :)..)

So necroposting (lol cool term, i like it) which is a term i was not familiar with but makes total sense when describing posts made replying to a question posted by a community member that is months old..

I admit, when i saw the topic title on most recent activities, i did not check the date before replying.. xD.. And since it was not locked for replies, without being aware it was an old post, i went ahead and replied to it.. My reply was deleted, which is totally understandable.. So it got me curious how many times this has happened before.. For me, this was my first time xD.. So a few questions regarding necroposting..

1) Were you aware or familiar of the term necroposting before reading this post?

2) Have you ever necroposted on  the forum with or without the knowledge of doing so?

If yes, how many times has it happened if you recall?

3) What do you think or what would you suggest in order to prevent necroposting?

Thanks in advance to all contributers to this post.. Your opinions and thoughts are appreciated, but please keep it proactive..

Peace..

Yeah I've heard of the term before. It is quite a stupid reason to delete posts in my opinion. It is discouraged to make a new post about something that is already in the forum, so that post will get deleted because the post already exists, and if you comment on the old post, your comment gets removed for necroposting. So there really is no right way to do it lol.

I've never heard of the term before but i'm well aware of its application. Although in my opinion this is better than creating a whole new post with almost the same thought of something that was posted a long time ago. A great example of this is the implementation of PvP within stake. I have seen multiple titles of this repeating over and over again, instead of having all the things about PvP in one place.

Although this is not helpful for the community especially if you're just commenting on it without valuable inputs (just having it resurface again for sats). That's why mods/staff filters these comments and often deletes the meaningless posts.

yeah you got some pretty good points there for sure.. some posts are still valid in regards to keeping it active.. unfortunately for me, the post i relied to was not.. it was just a player asking for guidance.. which for all we know, is not even active anymore.. which in this case, post should have been locked up.. xD

Haha so in simple terms it is replying to a topic which is totally inactive for months maybe years eh. It is an interesting term. :o

I'm aware of this term for more than 10 years already. And I think it's great that mods keep monitoring such things, bcoz I really see no reason to post another "gz/wow" in high bet/multi topic that was created a year ago. As preventation I would suggest to set forum topics for autolock if there is no replies for 2 month.

I use bet id hidden more often than using the usual bet because if for example I hit it will not look fiery, it is good so there is no pm attack or Friend request attack

I have never heard of this term before now .

I guess we do learn something new everyday.  Thanks for the info kix.  :)

Yup heard of the term before , when you post on an old topic which is now like gone and not there and can't be discussed anymore and post on it.

Well, I was aware of necroposting, even tho that I did that like 4-5 times while I couldnt find any topic to discuss or something. Anyways, there should be a scricter rule for that just like PD, where admins are able to delete them due to spam.By the way, if its actually a rule why doesn't mods just lock old topics or something?

I try only to post on threads where there is some kind of new activity. But if the debate is good in the threads I can make exceptions. I don't think old threads should be closed down, because some of them are worth keeping alive.

This good point! If this rule applied all the time everywhere, eventually there will be nothing left to say! Because all old threads would have said it, and can't create new threads about old topics that already exist!

Usually when this happens to me (only happened twice) its cuz i didnt really read the fine print or pay a whole lotta attention to the question that i should have.

Hey, friend, good question, first I was never hit by a necropsting problem because I first entered this community I read rules in every room and also I often asked mods if I didn't know what could violate the rules. my advice for those who are beginners about the forum try to read the rules and for the moderator I suggest locking the long discussion so that beginners who are lazy to read the rules are not exposed to necroposting.
